  6. Assessment Strategy 1 - Infographic P resentation (continued) Resources:NA Infographic

Example, Visme- Infographic Creator What Makes a Good Infographic Types of Infographics Laura B @LBlakes_GS
  7. Assessment Strategy 1 - Infographic P resentation Focus: Creating an

infographic to synthesize research on a particular topic. (Project -based learning) Digital Bloom's Taxonomy:Understanding and Creating E/E/E Level: This assessment uses all three components. Engage - introducing a new tool for students to use, Enhance - without this technology tool, students could not complete an infographic as a presentation/assessment tool, Extend- this is a tool that students could continue to use outside of school for other topics. Technology Tool: visme.com to create the infographic Description: Infographics give students a different way to display their learning besides writing papers, using powerpoint, or Prezi. Before the actual design, students must first conduct appropriate research on a particular content area subject. After filtering research, they will synthesize their learning by creating an infographic. In addition, students should be able to cite their sources correctly within the presentation. When grading, the focus should weigh heavier on the content than the design, especially if this is their first time using this tool. Laura B @LBlakes_GS
  8. Assessment Strategy 2 - N earpod Focus: Using nearpod to

collaborate and show learning on a particular subject area. Digital Bloom's Taxonomy: Nearpod could cover most areas of Bloom’s Taxonomy depending on the intended use of the tool. For the most part, it involves remembering, understanding, and applying. E/E/E Level: Students learning is enhanced by using a 1 -1 tool to collaborate with teacher and classmates. Technology Tool: Nearpod site/app Description: To get started, the teacher must create an account from nearpod.com. There are many presentations that are already made that the teacher can use or they can create their own. There are options on the slides, for example, drawing, presenting, question, analyzing, video, etc. that the teacher can incorporate in the lesson/assessment. When ready to share, the teacher would be in presenter mode and each student can have the own device to access the presentation. The Nearpod is directed by the teacher and the slides will automatically change on the students device. When wanting to assess, Nearpod will give you a summary report of each students progress. Laura B @LBlakes_GS
  9. Assessment Strategy 2 - N earpod (continued) Resources : Nearpod

    - Create, Engage, Assess through Mobile Devices What is Nearpod? Laura B @LBlakes_GS Using Nearpod to Assess
  10. Assessment Strategy: Virtual Presentations • allows students to use software

to create presentations • allows teachers to assess using technology - rubrics would be needed • Engages, enhances, and extends learning • Blooms Level 2 - Application • Students use critical thinking skills with new programs while synthesizing newly learned material • Students could make presentations on independent Julia B. @juliembrannen
  11. Virtual Presentations Tools Powtoon https://www.powtoon.com Using Powtoon, students will be

able to create presentations to show their class. Presentations could be over an independent study, tutorial for struggling students, or a different ending to a book study. Prezi www.prezi.com Works similar to Power Point, but students can add interactive charts, maps and infographics. This would be great for math and science! Google Slides Easy access, and students can work simultaneously with each other using different devices. Students from different classes could even work together. Julia B. @juliembrannen
  12. Assessment Strategy: Virtual Exit Slips • A digital “Ticket Out

the Door” - Instead of having students use paper/pencil or a thumbs up/down to see if they understand the new concept, why not allow them to use technology to show the same information? • Formative assessment • Uses critical thinking and knowledge • Engages, enhances, and can extend the educational experience • Blooms Level 2 - Application • Teachers can collect all of the responses to create a digital learning wall for the students. Julia B. @juliembrannen
  13. Virtual Exit Slips Tools Word Art https://wordart.com/ Blog Journal Students

can use any blog (such as blogger) to write a journal response. Teachers could even write a blog on their classroom blog then have students respond or comment on the teacher’s blog. Spark Post https://spark.adobe.com /about/post Students can create free graphics using their existing Google account. Julia B. @juliembrannen
  14. Assessment Strategy: Screencasts Screencasts are a great way to assess

student learning. The students simply record what is happening on the screen of a device, while they explain the process or their own thinking. “When students make a movie of their thinking, they give you a window into their thought process” https://www.edutopia.org/blog/tech-based-formative- assessment-monica-burns Tools that can be used to create screencasts: Explain Everything Snagit ScreenChomp ShowMe Quicktime Player Educreations Focus: Teachers use screencasts (created by students) as proof of understanding, knowledge of the information, critical thinking skills, and their ability to present information. DanaR @DanaRyal
  15. Assessment Strategy: Screencasts Bloom’s Taxonomy: Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating

Creating Screencasts can cover all of the levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy depending on how you use them in the classroom. Great Resources for Screencasts: http://tweenteacher.com/2016/11/11/the- ultimate-screencasting-guide-for-teachers-and- students/ http://www.teachhub.com/technology- classroom-why-how-screencast Engage/Enhance/Extend: Screencasts can be a great tool to assess student learning while keeping all students fully engaged. Screencasts can also be used to enhance or extend learning because all students will be working independently on their level and at their own pace. DanaR @DanaRyal
  16. Assessment Strategy: Assessments Using Music Tools that can be used

to incorporate music into the classroom: Garageband Audacity Music Maker Jam DanaR @DanaRyal Music can also be a great way to assess students learning. The students can use the information that they have learned to create a song, poetry, or even a podcast with some of these resources. Focus: Teachers can use student created songs, poetry, and podcasts as proof of understanding, knowledge of the information, critical thinking skills, and their ability to present information. Students can self-reflect on their work and edit it if they feel like it is needed. http://www.teiacooperativa.pro.br/using-music-in-the-classroom-to-improve-students-language-skills/
  17. Assessment Strategy: Assessments Using Music Bloom’s Taxonomy: Remembering Understanding Applying

Analyzing Assessments using music can cover most of the levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The students will have to remember, understand, apply, and analyze the information to complete the task. DanaR @DanaRyal Great resources for assessments using music: https://www.edutopia.org/blog/using-music- strategies-language-arts-classroom-heather- wolpert-gawron https://www.theedadvocate.org/10-ways- incorporate-music-classroom/ https://www.uscranton.com/resources/teachin g-tips/music-in-the-classroom-proves- beneficial-for-learning/#.WyP5g6dKjIU Engage/Enhance/Extend: Incorporating music into other subjects areas can help engage students that might not be interested in the subject otherwise. Creating music assignments can also help to enhance and extend the lesson because the students must really know the content well before they can create a song, poem, or podcast with the information.
  18. ASSESSMENT STRATEGY: LIVE QUIZ GAMES • Technology tools such as

iPads and computers can be used. • Students can show deep understanding of topics by creating quizzes for other students to take. • Students also take quizzes that the teacher makes. • Quizlet live • Kahoot • Classcraft • Poll Everywhere • Plickers Cody R @CodyNRyal

  25. Grace B. @bellmergrace Assessment Strategy: Why Are Infographics Important? Using

Infographics In The Classroom Grace B. @bellmergrace
  26. Assessing Information Fluency Jeff, R - @RichardsonJeffD Examples/Non-Examples: Using a

class blog site, students post weekly about their learning. The students have to list two examples and one non-example of something covered during the week, and explain their reasoning for categorizing those items. In addition, students have to read the blogs of others in their groups to be sure their peers are thinking correctly and give feedback accordingly. This strategy allows instructors to gauge the level of understanding of students in an ongoing (formative) manner leading to deeper and transferable learning Situation: 6th grade science is studying mixtures/solutions. After reviewing the section on mixtures, students should be able to give two examples and one non-example of mixtures, and the reasoning for their classifications. Blooms levels: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing and Evaluating, and Creating. (http://www.stma.k12.mn.us/documents/DW/Q_Comp/FormativeAssessStrategies.pdf) E/E/E Levels - Engage, Enhance, Extend (Kerin-Kolb, J - 2013)
  27. Assessing Information Fluency – Evaluation and Inquiry Jeff, R -

@RichardsonJeffD Problem: How can we know that a student has mastered a complex process like using complicated software to perform multi-leveled processes that can be achieved in multiple ways? Example: Student groups are tasked to create an interactive design project that will be hosted on the schools’ website. The requirements are: the project must be prepared using Adobe Photoshop, and the interactive elements must be Adobe Flash compliant. The methodology, research, and layout are the choice of the student group. There are at least two ways to do nearly every Photoshop function; Website compatibility, and ‘Flash’ in general, may not be something the students use often [if ever]. ----------------------------------------------------------------------Solutions---------------------------------------------------------------------- Posting everything on a LMS such as Schoology allows interaction through: • Effective Rubrics: Discussed at the beginning of the project and adjusted for problem solving and collaboration, (Greenstien, L. (2012) Assessing 21st century skills) will show the least acceptable to best, or as expected, levels of work. This gives the students a guide to the project expectations, a means for instructor comment and citation, equitable guidelines, and a very effective method of timely feedback* (Rucker/Thompson 2003 – Stevens, D. and Levi, J. (2013) Introduction to Rubrics). • Learning Contracts and Checklists: Give the students an idea of what educators expect from them, and what they should expect from instructors (Greenstien, L. (2012) Beyond the Core). [slide 1 of 2 - continued]
  28. Assessing Information Fluency – Evaluation and Inquiry Jeff, R -

@RichardsonJeffD • *Timely Feedback: Feedback is most effective when given within 48 hours, while the information is still fresh on the mind of the students (Rucker, M.L. & Thomson, S. (2003). Assessing student learning outcomes: An investigation of the relationship among feedback measures. College Student Journal, 37(3) 400-405.) • Reflection Blog: Students that can offer coherent reflective summaries of their work are engaging in higher level thinking. Using online methods of feedback engages the student in a methodology reflective of 21st century skills (Kerin-Kolb, 2013). • Critiquing the assignment: Students who are routinely allowed to critique the assignment as well as the methodology are more engaged in the processes of learning. Instructors can also learn how to better align their instruction based on student feedback. (William, D. (2012) Doc Zoo – You Tube) Blooms Digital Taxonomy Standards - E/E/E level Rubrics: Understanding and Applying. Engage, Contracts: Remembering, Understanding, and Applying. Engage Feedback: Analyzing and Evaluating. Enhance, Extend Reflection: Evaluating and Creating. Enhance, Extend Assignment Critique: Evaluating and Creating. 49. 9 Interesting Ways to Support Spelling in the Classroom. Spelling

is an important part of teaching students in lower elementary, it is the foundation that will help students with fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension. If the student can decode words and then use context clues to find the meaning of the word then that student can comprehend the text that he or she is reading. Spelling is about Remembering which is a 1 on Bloom’s Taxonomy but it can be used with rigor to possibly a 2 which is Understanding or a 3 which is applying on Bloom’s Taxonomy if the assignments are rigorous for the students. Spelling is a part of reading and comprehension because it builds the basic foundations such as phonics, spelling rules, and grammar rules. Spelling activities can also help struggling students and students with disabilities too. Why Weekly Spelling Test Doesn't Stick CicelyJ@CJackso79849136 49
  50. 9 Interesting Ways to Support Spelling in the Classroom. Bloom’s

Digital Taxonomy and the Communication Spectrum can be integrated with spelling in the classroom. Texting and instant messaging in the classroom through Ipads or other devices will encourage students to send messages with correct spelling. Chatting, blogging, emailing, and contributing will require students to use words in a meaningful way and will require students to think about what they are sending to each other or in the classroom. The teacher can require the students to send a message using spelling words in the right context. It will require the students show their understanding and apply those spelling words in writing. The teacher can use SpellingCity to monitor and assess student understanding of the words, vocabulary, and use of words. Does Spelling Matter CicelyJ@CJackso79849136 50

the students with different opportunities to practice their spelling actively. Enhance the students learning by applying the words they are learning through technology like spelling city, interactive whiteboard or videos. Extend student learning by allowing them to tweet a message or send a text for homework. Teachers should frequently use formative assessments to improve student learning, guide student efforts through evaluative tools, and design performance assessments that define the tasks according to Linda Darling Hammond. Students will get immediate feedback through the digital tools like the spelling test in SpellingCity, or teacher in an email, and other students if they are chatting but assessments can be ongoing depending on the task.
