3. What are high schools looking for? • GPA • Standardized test scores • Attendance/discipline • Writing • Entrance exam score • Teacher recommendations • Extra-curricular involvement • The student’s interest in the school
4. Start early and do research. • Talk to people • Attend fairs • Go to open houses • Attend shadow days • Call the admissions office • Look at website
5. Evaluate your priorities and the schools. • Location • Size • Cost • Academics • Extra-curricular activities/sport • Class sizes • Environment/culture • Counselling
6. Determine the process for EACH school. • CPS ◦ Neighborhood Schools,Selective Enrollment, IB, CTE, Magnet, … • Must pre-qualify • Private Schools ◦ Parker, Latin, Lycee, Lab… • Charter Schools ◦ UNO, Noble, ....
