I travel abroad a lot and sometimes for only one or two days. During these trips the work does not wait for you. It is imperative to at least read your emails. For this, you have two options : Subscribe to a local operator (new SIM card for two days O_o) or you pay extra charges of Data-Roaming (if available in the country) .
I just didn't want to choose between these two proposals. So I took a Raspberry pie, an old cell phone, a SIM card and after some hacks, it became a server that sends me SMS's (free) when I get an email. Awesome!
