    miss weekly deadlines • Check Slack daily for announcements • Ask & answer questions on Slack • Attend weekly Zoom o ffi ce hours • Attend weekly study group meetings • Schedule 1:1 calls with mentors
  5. You only have 24 hours in a day. To make

    time for something new, you have to eliminate something old.
  6. Don’t underestimate the importance of Slack. You become the average

    of the five people you spend the most time with.
  7. Participants who show up for group meetings are going to

    get more out of this than those who don’t.
  8. Schedule regular 1:1 calls with us, even if things aren’t

    going well. A 15 min chat can have a big impact!
  9. Ask questions! If something isn’t clear to you, and you

    don’t ask, you won’t understand the other things that build upon it.
  10. If you don’t write any code, you won’t learn to

    write code. Type out every line of code!
  11. Don’t forget to publish your work online. Share your journey

    with the world. Be found, instead of finding work.
  12. Don’t let difficult topics discourage you. When the going gets

    tough, embrace the struggle. That’s how you’ll grow!
  13. Help others. It’s great way to improve your understanding (and

    gain karma!) Be kind to others and yourself.
  14. Don’t forget to have fun! Enjoy the learning process.
