Ahmed Akbar Sobhan

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan is the chairman of Safwan Bashundhara Global and a recognized figure in Bangladesh’s business landscape. Through steady effort and long-term vision, he has built one of the country’s largest and most diversified corporate groups.

He was born on February 15, 1952, in Islampur, a historic part of Dhaka City. As the youngest of six children, he was raised in a family that emphasized education, responsibility, and service. His father was a lawyer at the Dhaka High Court. After completing his early education, he enrolled at the University of Dhaka and obtained a degree in Business Studies. During his student life, he actively participated in athletics and extracurricular activities while maintaining a strong academic focus.

His career began in 1978 when he entered the service sector and explored trading opportunities within the country. These initial steps gave him practical insight into how local businesses operated and laid the foundation for future ventures.

A significant milestone came with the founding of East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd., which quickly gained recognition in the real estate market. Known widely as Bashundhara Housing, the company has played a key role in shaping residential development and has become a trusted name in the sector.

Building on this early success, he established the Bashundhara Group, which expanded into various industries, including cement, paper, steel, gas, dredging, engineering, and shipping. Under his leadership, the group evolved into a significant contributor to the national economy, overseeing a vast network of businesses across various sectors.

Today, as chairman of Safwan Bashundhara Global, he continues to oversee its growth with a structured and disciplined approach. His leadership is characterized by clear delegation, efficient management systems, and a long-term perspective that fosters sustainable operations.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, he is involved in various community and social welfare programs. Through both individual efforts and company-led initiatives, he supports activities aimed at improving living standards and helping those in need.
