3. Focus of the Research  Opportunity to assess how to monitor and make green decisions during IT projects.  “Decarbonising the software project lifecycle”. Literature Review Critical review of literature from 2012 to 2022, grounded in the TCFD framework. Research question: “How do Information technology intensive projects contribute to an organisation’s climate-related risks and opportunities” Empirical Review Qualitative and Quantitative study investigating current organisational practices. Research question: “How do sustainable environmental practices influence institutional logics during the lifecycle of information technology intensive projects within organisations” Development Paper The development of the information technology intensive projects sustainable decision- making framework and methodology. Development via action research groups. Application of Framework Paper The application of the information technology intensive projects sustainable decision-making framework and methodology. Research Outcomes Integrated Climate Optimisation Framework The outcomes of the research is to provide a framework to make better decisions during the planning and execution of IT projects and to contribute to institution theory. Three steps to provide these outcomes. 5. Pre-liminary Data Do your software design and development processes follow any sustainability principles? Does your IT project teams monitor the scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions during the execution of the project? When planning IT projects, does your organisation take scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions into account? Does your IT department track scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions that are consumed and forecast future demand?
6. Green Software Foundation  Building a trusted ecosystem of people, standards, tooling and best practices for creating and building green software.  Requires changing technology culture, building knowledge and having the tools to measure and act upon.  Carbon awareness:  Demand shifting – spatial and temporal shifting.  Demand shaping.
7. Next Steps Analysis of data Paper 2 Action research group Paper 3 Use the framework Paper 4  The PhD is being developed in conjunction with organisations and subsequently real use cases.  There are multiple actors involved in the research, which includes, supervisory team, multi-industry stakeholder group and the Green Software Foundation.  To complete the PhD a detailed methodology, conclusion and recommendation sections will be required for all the papers.
