Bo Nicholson's journey is deeply rooted in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he grew up with his two brothers, William and Henry. The city’s influence has shaped his values and professional outlook, guiding him through every career stage.
After high school, Bo moved to Athens, Georgia, to attend the University of Georgia. He graduated in 2010 from the Terry College of Business. During his time in Athens, his love for music led him to become a member of Mama’s Love, a rock band that toured extensively across the Southeastern U.S. The band recorded original music at Southern Ground in Atlanta, where he had the chance to work with producer John Keane. The experience taught him lessons in teamwork, dedication, and the importance of a shared vision—principles that still inform his approach to business today.
Although Bo eventually transitioned away from music as a full-time career, his passion for the art form continues to play an essential role in his life. He regularly performs with Steamroom Etiquette, a local cover band in Raleigh, and occasionally reunites with former bandmates for special performances. Music remains a creative outlet for him and helps him maintain balance outside his professional responsibilities.
In 2012, Bo entered the financial services industry by joining Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the firm’s rigorous Practice Management Development program, which helped him build his practice using traditional methods like cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These early experiences were instrumental in shaping his relationship-focused approach to financial advising, where building trust and offering proactive service is essential.
In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies, joining Financial Resource Management (FRM) alongside Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper. He was drawn to FRM’s client-first philosophy and its emphasis on building long-term relationships. Since then, he has been integral to the firm’s growth, helping it expand to serve high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina. Today, FRM has offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.
Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course. He is a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, a distinction given to those who demonstrate outstanding client service and performance.
Beyond his financial advisory work, Bo co-hosts a personal finance radio show that airs weekly across the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show provides practical financial guidance and aims to make financial education accessible to a broader audience.
Bo’s approach to financial planning is built on trust, transparency, and a long-term perspective. He works with clients to help them navigate complex financial decisions, reduce taxes, and create personalized strategies that align with their life goals. Whether preparing for retirement, managing family wealth, or transitioning a business, he ensures that each plan is tailored to meet the specific needs of his clients.
Outside of work, Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018, and they have two children, Grove (born in 2021) and Bill (born in 2023), along with their yellow lab, Parker. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and exploring the North Carolina coast. His love for music remains, and he continues to perform and attend shows whenever possible.
As he moves forward in his career, Bo remains focused on helping his clients build a secure financial future, one relationship at a time.
