Charles Douyon is a legal and compliance expert with over 12 years of experience specializing in financial regulations. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, his formative years were shaped by a deep passion for sports, particularly basketball and football. His family later moved to Long Island, where his involvement in athletics continued, teaching him valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership—traits that would greatly influence his career.
After high school, Charles initially attended Northeastern University in Boston. Still, after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, he transferred to Berkeley College in New York to be closer to his family. At Berkeley, he pursued a degree in Business Management and Finance, graduating magna cum laude in 2005. This academic achievement laid the foundation for his future career in business and law, setting him on a path to combine both fields eventually.
Charles’s professional journey began in finance when he took a position at a financial institution on Wall Street. The experience gave him valuable insights into investment strategies, market trends, and the operational dynamics of the financial industry. However, after several years, he realized that his growing interest in legal issues, particularly those related to economic regulations, was steering him toward a new path.
In 2007, Charles decided to make a significant career shift and enrolled at Northwestern University School of Law. Transitioning from finance to law was challenging but rewarding. His background in business allowed him to approach legal studies with a practical mindset, particularly in finance-related areas. He graduated in 2010, entering the legal profession just as the financial industry navigated a period of significant regulatory reform in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis.
To further expand his expertise in financial law, Charles pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) at Fordham University Law School, specializing in Corporate, Banking, and Finance Law. At Fordham, he gained hands-on experience through internships with regulatory agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). These internships allowed him to understand the complexities of regulatory compliance and enforcement, strengthening his knowledge of the financial legal landscape.
Charles has held various legal and compliance roles, advising investment firms and financial institutions on navigating complex regulations. His deep understanding of economic laws, including the Dodd-Frank Act and the Securities Exchange Act, has made him a trusted advisor for firms seeking to stay compliant with evolving regulations. His ability to interpret and apply these regulations has been instrumental in helping firms mitigate legal risks.
Charles has also taken on leadership roles, including serving as Director of Compliance at a prominent investment firm. He oversaw the firm’s compliance programs in this capacity, ensuring that all operations adhered to legal and regulatory standards. His leadership helped safeguard the firm’s reputation and minimize potential legal challenges.
Outside of his professional life, Charles is passionate about sports and enjoys playing basketball and football recreationally. He has also developed an interest in endurance sports, completing marathons and participating in multiple half-marathons. Traveling is another passion, allowing him to explore new cultures and broaden his worldview. He is also an avid music lover and enjoys trying new cuisines, particularly Chinese food.
Charles Douyon's career has been shaped by his financial law and compliance expertise. His transition from finance to law and his leadership in regulatory matters has made him a highly respected figure in his field. Outside of work, his dedication to sports, travel, and cultural exploration provides a well-rounded balance to his life.
