Something, Something, Something, Mobile!

In October 2012 I talked about the future of the web, and the rise of mobile. The session was mostly me talking so I hope the slides hold up on their own. Some key points:

---

The idea of the 'webpage' is dead. it's no longer a page as it can morph into any shape or form depending on the device handling it. The idea of a page is a (dying) reference to the print world.

This poses a problem for the online advertising industry (mainly banners) that still work like this; selling slots at a fixed size.

It also poses challenges for designers, who are used to making static designs in a fixed-width medium like Photoshop. WYSIWYG is completely out of the window here...

Because of ever-changing sizes, orientations and features not only do devs and designers have to step up, content editors need to be aware of this too, because they can't make directional or technical references. (ie. 'the menu above' or 'hover the menu') because these references are completely variable.

---

The end-slide poses some questions about the future that were a starting-point for group discussions.
