Jaime Alexander Caballero, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, is an interventional cardiologist based in Tampa, Florida, recognized for his expertise in coronary interventions, structural heart disease, and endovascular therapies. He is the founder of Tampa Heart and Vascular Associates, an independent, physician-led cardiology practice focused on multidisciplinary treatment and advanced cardiovascular procedures. He also serves as Collaborative Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the University of South Florida and holds clinical privileges at Tampa General Hospital.
Born and raised in Colombia, Dr. Jaime Caballero demonstrated early academic excellence. In 1994, he became the National Champion in the Colombian Secondary School Mathematics and Physics Olympics in Bogotá. His interest in science and human health later led him to pursue medical training at the University of Tolima School of Medicine. He graduated with his Medical Doctor degree in 2006 and was recognized during training as Best Intern of the Year at Hospital Fundación Santafé de Bogota.
Following medical school, he completed advanced emergency and trauma care education in Colombia, including Advanced Trauma Life Support at the University de La Salle and specialized airway management training at the University of Rosario. Seeking broader clinical experience, he moved to the United States in 2009 to continue postgraduate training. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale School of Medicine, Saint Raphael Campus, where he earned honors for professionalism and academic achievement.
Dr. Caballero then pursued advanced cardiology training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine followed by a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology. During this time, he also attended specialized programs focused on transcatheter aortic valve replacement and mechanical circulatory support. His training emphasized complex coronary interventions and the expanding role of minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures.
In 2016, he began his career as an interventional cardiologist in Tampa, Florida, where he performed a wide range of coronary and structural heart procedures. Over time, he gained experience in high-risk coronary intervention, chronic total occlusion treatment, and transcatheter structural therapies. In 2021, he helped establish Tampa Heart and Vascular Associates, creating a physician-led practice focused on accessible care and advanced cardiovascular treatment.
Alongside clinical practice, Jaime Caballero, MD, contributes to medical education and professional development. He participates in physician training programs, conference leadership, and academic collaboration. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. His work continues to support innovation in interventional cardiology and the advancement of patient-centered cardiovascular care.
