Dr. Shamini Parameswaran

Dr. Shamini Parameswaran’s story is one of determination, intellectual passion, and a deep calling to heal. Born in London and later raised in the United States, she grew up in an environment that blended cultural diversity with strong academic influence. Her father’s long-standing role at Texas Tech University exposed her to scientific inquiry and higher education at an early age, sparking her fascination with how engineering principles could be applied to solve some of medicine’s most complex problems.

This interest led her to Johns Hopkins University, where she pursued a degree in biomedical engineering with a focus on cardiovascular systems. Immersed in a demanding academic environment, she developed the analytical mindset and technical foundation that would ultimately shape her approach to surgery. Her desire to explore the biological aspects of medical innovation led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Microbiology at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where she studied infections related to medical implants—an area critical to advancing patient safety and improving surgical outcomes.

During her medical education at Texas Tech University, Dr. Parameswaran emerged as a trailblazer and role model. She became the first woman to lead the school’s surgery club, a milestone that underscored her commitment to mentoring future physicians. Her work as a Dean’s ambassador further showcased her leadership and dedication to medical education. Her passion for cardiothoracic surgery ultimately led her to Yale School of Medicine’s highly selective Integrated Thoracic Surgery Residency Program. There, she refined her skills in heart and chest surgery, completing one of the most rigorous surgical training pathways available.

Today, Dr. Shamini Parameswaran stands out as a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon known for her surgical precision, compassionate communication, and commitment to innovation. Her specialized training in aortic aneurysm repair, guided by experts in the field, highlights her dedication to mastering the most demanding procedures in cardiac surgery.
