Edward Wagstaff is a British-born writer, editor, and script consultant whose multifaceted career spans film, entertainment, and conversational AI. A graduate of the University of Oxford with first-class honors in Philosophy and Modern Languages (Italian), he has built a career defined by creativity, versatility, and cross-cultural experience.
During his studies, Edward spent a year in Rome at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre, immersing himself in cinema and art history while volunteering as a teaching assistant in the English department. He directed a student production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest and developed his passion for photography, capturing the beauty of Rome’s historic architecture and daily life. He also worked part-time as an English tutor, further refining his communication skills and deepening his appreciation for language and storytelling.
After completing his studies, Edward began working in London’s film industry with Studio 8 Productions and Peace Arch Films, where he provided script analysis, coordinated ADR sessions, and assisted in producing marketing materials for international markets. He also interned in post-production on the BBC series Monarch of the Glen, gaining valuable experience in editing, sound mixing, and color correction. His first significant on-set experience occurred in Tuscany in 2004, when he worked on the feature film Shadows in the Sun, starring Harvey Keitel and Joshua Jackson. Serving as an assistant to producers and as a liaison between English and Italian crews, Edward Wagstaff developed a strong foundation in production and collaboration.
Later that year, he relocated to the US, joining Fierce Entertainment as a Creative Executive. There, he played a key role in developing the Jet Li and Jason Statham film War and helped expand the company’s buyer network. Transitioning to Original Content, a boutique literary management agency, Edward focused on nurturing screenwriting talent, developing new projects, and overseeing post-production on the documentary Diamonds in the Rough.
In 2008, Edward’s first spec script, Arena, was optioned by Summit Entertainment, marking the launch of his screenwriting career. Over the next decade, he wrote and developed several original and commissioned projects across genres. Following the 2023 WGA strike, Edward joined a leading tech company to work on conversational AI, applying his storytelling expertise to enhance human-AI communication.
