  1. Original Site • 3 Conventional wooden sheds 2x 60’ x

    240’ and 1 60’ x 220 • Total production area 42,000’sq • Farm buildings all largely unused. • Refurbish or rebuild.
  2. Considerations for new site • Maximum efficiency • Minimum labour

costs • Minimise energy costs • Uniform production from all sheds. • Mechanise where possible • High thermal performance of sheds • Embrace new technology where proven.
  3. New Site specification • 6 identical sheds • 25,000’sq /

shed (80’ x 310’) • DACS ventilation and heaters • 900kW Biomass Boiler from Energy Innovations. • 550kW of Backup LPG
  4. Biomass considerations • Must take wide range of fuel quality.

    • Minimal intervention. • Loader free site? • Proven and local supplier. • Backup heat in plant room not LPG heaters in sheds. • Must link to alarm systems for site if any problems occur. • Support must be available 24/7.
  5. Lesson Learnt: • Fuel quality: Initial supplier had tendency to

supplier wide range of quality: Too inconsistent. • Loader free site not practical: Fill store once between crops and then push up once mid crop. • Feed system initially struggled with lowest quality fuels. • Boiler now turned off for end of crop.
  6. Final Specification • Energy Innovations supplied Gilles HPKI-R moving grate

boiler. • 10x 8 x 4m deep walking floor giving 320m3 of chip storage. • 550kW of backup LPG • 24000Litre Buffer Tank • 3x 90kW fan coils in each shed. • Steel heating pipe running at 90Degrees at full load. • Remote Dial up for service Diagnostics where required.
