Erin Sydney Welsh

Erin Sydney Welsh is an associate attorney practicing matrimonial and family law at Brian R. Welsh, PLLC, in Williamsville, New York, just outside Buffalo. Her practice includes representing individuals in divorce, custody, child support, prenuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement matters, and family offenses. She handles matters at both the trial and appellate levels and has particular experience in parental alienation cases. After completing law school in 2024, she passed the New York bar exam and was admitted to practice by the Appellate Division: Fourth Department, in January 2025.

Attorney Erin Welsh, Buffalo, began her academic studies at Syracuse University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Middle East Studies. She attended the university on a full-tuition merit scholarship through the Coronat Scholar Program, which recognizes students who demonstrate leadership and service. During her time there, she was also selected as a Remembrance Scholar, one of Syracuse University’s highest honors. In addition, she completed the Renee Crown University Honors Program, an interdisciplinary program focused on communication, civic involvement, and collaborative learning.

Following her undergraduate education, she pursued graduate study at Trinity College Dublin and earned a Master of Philosophy in Sociology with first-class honors. While in Dublin, she published a peer-reviewed article titled “Assessing Microfinance as a Means of Socioeconomic Empowerment for Vulnerable Women in Jordan.” Her research explored how financial initiatives can influence economic opportunity and independence for women in vulnerable communities, reflecting her interest in the relationship between policy and social outcomes.

Erin continued her legal training at the University at Buffalo School of Law. She served on the Buffalo Law Review, where she honed her legal writing and analysis skills. She was awarded the Robert J. Connelly Trial Technique Award in recognition of her courtroom performance and practical advocacy skills. She was also named a James Kent Scholar and served as a Property Fellow, assisting in academic instruction.

During law school, she gained experience through internships at the Erie County District Attorney’s Office and in the Attorneys for Children Unit at the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo. These roles provided exposure to litigation and child advocacy. Erin Welsh also participated as a New York State Bar Association Family Law Section Fellow, further developing her focus in family law.

Erin Sydney Welsh, Buffalo, remains active in the legal community by volunteering as a judge for mock trials and moot court competitions. Born and raised in Western New York, she lives in Williamsville with her spouse. In addition to her work as an Attorney, she is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who continues to write and perform music.
