  1. stressor: the feeling of regret, miserableness, and self-loathing after eating

POV: users: people suffering from binge eating need: to prevent people from feeling regret, miserableness, and self-loathing after eating insights: preventing the overwhelming feeling to eat something more although they are already full by the technique of mindful eating stressor, POV •hunger: 100% •self- esteem: 100% Before eating •hunger: 50% •self- esteem: 50% During eating •hunger: 0% •self- esteem: 30% During overeating •hunger:0% •self- esteem: 0% After eating
  2. Features/functionality features/functionality • Entering the ingredients will make one more

aware of the composition of the food (wow, that dish is 50% oil? I never thought about that!) •‘freezer coming emptier during the day’ metaphor will make the user aware of the quantity of food that she/he has consumed in a non–offensive manner • Entering the taste/smell of the dish in the application will make the user stop for a moment, take a deep breath and discover an even deeper level of sensory awareness
  3. Justifications for design (theoretical and practical) features/functionality •Prior work has

shown* that using sensory relaxation strategies(achieved by the entering of the taste/smell/look of the dish) can help in the overcoming binge eating •Another work** suggests to keep a food diary. Write down what you eat, when, how much, and how you're feeling when you eat. (this is done through the fridge metaphor) •(from***) slowing down the process of eating long enough to recognize the ingredients of the food helps us to be truly grateful for the meal * http://amihungry.com/mindful-eating.shtml ** http://www.helpguide.org/mental/binge_eating_disorder.htm ***The seeds of love, Thich Nhat Hanh
  4. Shortcomings of design features/functionality • Users may be finding the

entering procedure too long for small pieces of food (ex. pack of crackers, cereal bars, an apple, a cup of coffee) • Users may be ashamed to use it in public • Users may be confused what to enter when they only drink something
  5. Next steps in design process features/functionality •Improve the prototype in

a consultancy with more experienced designers • Make paper copies of the prototype, make the users try it, talk it over with the them, and ask them for their experience and their opinions
