We were thrilled to have the opportunity to catch up with Mary during her first two weeks at the Company – to hear not only about what excites her about Cloudera’s market opportunity but how she spends her free time, what she prides herself on, and her approach to leadership. We are excited for you to get to know Mary - as we did - and learn about the unique perspectives that she brings to Cloudera’s vision and mission. Tell us a bit about yourself – where are you from? How did you get started in marketing?

Originally from the Syracuse, NY area, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts for university. While at Boston College, I studied organizational behavior and marketing and upon graduating, started my career in HR doing Training & Development. After a short while I made the switch into the tech industry and worked as an HR office manager. It wasn’t until one of our Regional VP’s of Sales asked for my help with field marketing that I decided to pursue marketing. From then on, I was hooked on marketing and the tech industry. Often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of the East”, Boston was the “place-to-be” for tech roles so I stayed in Boston for the majority of my career. (I did remain a Buffalo Bills Fan, even though I also love the Patriots!) Only recently did I move back to the Syracuse area to be closer to my family but I also consider Cape Cod my home as well. What would you be doing if you were not CMO at Cloudera? I have a lot of passions and interests so it is hard to narrow it down to just one thing, but I think that I would likely be running an animal shelter somewhere – showing the impact of spaying and neutering. Or, doing marketing for the National Football League! What made you want to join Cloudera? What excites you most? The generative AI and hybrid data market opportunity is massive right now and given Cloudera’s history and reputation I think we are well positioned to seize the moment. Anyone who has been in the technology sector for a long time, like I have, has seen the tectonic plates of the industry shift a few times. I think that we are on the cusp of that again – the next industry crossroads – and that Cloudera has all the right people and the right skills to win in this next phase. What is a career achievement you are most proud of that is not on your resume? I’m most proud of my Voice of the Workforce (Employee Engagement) scores. During my tenure at prior companies, my teams consistently scored the highest on employee engagement and satisfaction. I take these scores very seriously and truly believe that a key component of my role as a CMO is Business to Employee (B2E) marketing.

What is one piece of advice you received from a past mentor that you think Clouderans should know? Never be afraid to ask questions. In my experience, others are thinking the same thing but don’t want to be vulnerable and ask. I also have learned that it is important to show up and be present. If you were to have coffee with one person, who would it be? It would be impossible to choose just one – can I have brunch instead? [I said, of course!] A few people I would have to invite are – Madeleine Albright, Colin Powell, Cher, Tom Brady, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Gandhi, Cesar Milan, Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II. This list is eclectic by design. The best groups - like the best teams - are diverse in background, perspective and experience. Also, each of these people defied odds, overcame challenges and maintained relevance across generations. They each exemplify hard work and tenacity – traits that I admire and emulate. As you know our Week of Giving is coming up, how are you planning to participate? I am thrilled to have the opportunity to give back alongside all of you this November. Volunteering and supporting nonprofit organizations is an integral part of who I am and I am excited to share that with all of you. This Week of Giving I will be supporting two causes I’m particularly passionate about – animal rights and elderly advocacy – and I invite you to join me in these efforts Now through November 17th, I will be matching donations up to $2,500 supporting this giving opportunity, raising funds for animal rights organizations and nonprofits fighting elderly isolation •

What is something interesting you’re listening to or reading right now? Cloudera decks, reports and blogs – who has time for anything else! Other than Cloudera related content, I read The New York Times regularly and listen to their podcast, The Daily. What is one thing you wish people would know about you right off the bat? It is hard to narrow it down to just one – As I shared with the Marketing organization last week, I have a bias for action, emphasize innovation and diverse perspectives in decision making and value trust and loyalty among colleagues. My sincere hope is to build on the foundation of this strong organization and continue cultivating this world class culture as we become lifelong colleagues. And, last but not least, what is your go to late night snack? Cape Cod potato chips! • Send feedback
