James Burleson has invested more than thirty years in a career that combines finance, entrepreneurship, and community service. He has founded businesses, managed investments, and contributed to ventures that balance innovation with long-term purpose. Just as meaningful as his professional success has been his dedication to civic involvement and philanthropy, which he has carried alongside his work in the financial world.

His connection to the financial markets began at a young age. At only 24, James became one of the youngest seat holders and market makers on the Pacific Stock Exchange. His leadership was soon recognized, and he was elected as the youngest Chair of the Nominating Committee for the Board of Governors. These accomplishments set him apart early in his career. He went on to serve in senior positions with respected firms such as Letco LMM, Joseph D. Heard Jr. Inc., Premier Trading Group, and Charles Schwab. During his time as Partner and Lead Market Maker at Letco, he played a key role in the company’s growth until it was acquired by Toronto Dominion Bank in 2002. His knowledge of derivatives and trading strategies became a cornerstone of his professional identity.

In 2004, he founded Burleson + Company, an independent advisory firm that grew to manage nearly $800 million in assets under management. The firm became known for its focus on wealth management and financial planning that aligned financial outcomes with clients’ broader life goals. He later expanded his reach with Northern Peak Consulting, where he provided strategic and operational advice to both individuals and businesses. His entrepreneurial work also extended to venture capital with the creation of BCo Venture Fund I, which invested in early-stage companies. One of the fund’s notable investments was Pathwater, a bottled water company that brought a sustainable approach to the consumer market.

Service has always been central to his life. For nearly two decades, he has been part of the Sonoma–Marin Fair Board, supporting programs for agriculture, education, and youth. James also dedicated more than a decade to the Rotary Club of Petaluma, serving as Treasurer of its foundation. In addition, he has served for over twenty years on the St. Vincent Parish Finance Committee and contributed as a board member at St. Vincent High School. Over the past 25 years, he has also supported organizations including the Petaluma Educational Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, and Polly Klaas Foundation.

Raised in a military family, he grew up with values of discipline and adaptability that shaped both his professional and personal outlook. After earning a finance degree from the University of Texas at Austin, he maintained close ties with his alma mater and fraternity, Sigma Chi. Away from professional life, he enjoys skiing with his children, golfing in the Utah mountains, traveling, and keeping a strong interest in the stock market.

James Burleson’s life and career reflect a steady balance of professional growth, entrepreneurial vision, and service to others. His journey exemplifies how leadership and expertise, combined with a dedication to family and community, create a lasting legacy built on responsibility, purpose, and long-term impact.
