James Kaminsky is a senior editorial director and digital content strategist who has guided content operations for several prominent names in media. His work has spanned both print and digital publishing, with leadership roles at Maxim, Playboy, Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, Realtor.com, and Homes.com.

James was raised in Westport, Connecticut, and later attended Boston University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Film and Broadcast Journalism. During college, he contributed to the campus newspaper and completed an internship at the Boston Globe, gaining early experience in journalism. After graduation, he moved to New York and entered the business publishing industry, where he steadily advanced to become editor-in-chief at Act III Communications. In that role, he led teams focused on content covering entertainment, business, and technology.

As his career evolved, he moved into the consumer magazine space, freelancing for respected outlets and then taking on senior editorial roles at Men’s Journal and Conde Nast Sports for Women. At Men’s Journal, he contributed to shaping the publication’s content direction and growth. His work at Conde Nast provided hands-on experience in building a new magazine and digital platform.

In 1999, James Kaminsky became executive editor at Maxim as it launched in the United States. He played an essential part in developing editorial plans that fueled the magazine’s rapid growth. Later, as editorial director at Playboy, he worked to update the magazine’s storytelling and connect with a new audience while maintaining its identity.

James continued his path in media by holding leadership roles at Rolling Stone and Men’s Journal, guiding content initiatives and digital expansion. Returning to Maxim for a second term, he worked to help the publication adjust to new market conditions and audience needs.

He also led editorial strategy at Life Reimagined for AARP and spent over eight years as Senior Editorial Director at Realtor.com, building a news division and expanding its digital reach. Most recently, his work at Homes.com focused on content related to luxury real estate.

Today, James Kaminsky enjoys cycling, hiking, and film. He works independently as a consultant and writer, lending his editorial skills to a variety of projects and organizations.
