  1.   This  is  a  dedica6on  to  the   memory  of

Steve  Jobs.     These  were  his  own   words.
  2. Remembering  that  you  are   going  to  die  is  the

best  way  I   know  to  avoid  the  trap  of   thinking  you  have  something  to   lose.  You  are  already  naked.   There  is  no  reason  not  to  follow   your  heart.  Stay  hungry.  Stay   foolish.
  3. That's  been  one  of  my  mantras  -‐-‐   focus  and

simplicity.  Simple  can  be   harder  than  complex:  You  have  to   work  hard  to  get  your  thinking   clean  to  make  it  simple.  But  it's   worth  it  in  the  end  because  once   you  get  there,  you  can  move   mountains.
  4. Picasso  had  a  saying:  'Good  ar6sts   copy,  great  ar6sts

steal.'  We  have   always  been  shameless  about  stealing   great  ideas.   I  think  part  of  what  made  the   Macintosh  great  was  that  the  people   working  on  it  were  musicians,  poets,   ar6sts,  zoologists  and  historians  who   also  happened  to  be  the  best   computer  scien6sts  in  the  world.
  5. Your  6me  is  limited,  so  don't   waste  it  living

someone  else's   life.  Don't  be  trapped  by  dogma   -‐  which  is  living  with  the  results   of  other  people's  thinking.  Don't   let  the  noise  of  other's  opinions   drown  out  your  own  inner   voice.
  6. Crea6vity  is  just  connec6ng  things.   When  you  ask  crea6ve

people  how   they  did  something,  they  feel  a  liPle   guilty  because  they  didn't  really  do  it,   they  just  saw  something.  It  seemed   obvious  to  them  aQer  a  while.  That's   because  they  were  able  to  connect   experiences  they've  had  and   synthesize  new  things.
  7. Have  the  courage  to  follow  your   heart  and  intui6on.

They   somehow  already  know  what   you  truly  want  to  become.   Everything  else  is  secondary.
  8. If  I  were  running  Apple,  I  would   milk  the

Macintosh  for  all  it's   worth  -‐-‐  and  get  busy  on  the   next  great  thing.  The  PC  wars   are  over.  Done.  MicrosoQ  won  a   long  6me  ago.
  9. We  made  the  buPons  on  the   screen  look  so

good  you'll  want   to  lick  them.
  10. I'm  the  only  person  I  know   that's  lost  a

quarter  of  a  billion   dollars  in  one  year....  It's  very   character-‐building.
  11. It's  really  hard  to  design   products  by  focus  groups.

A  lot   of  6mes,  people  don't  know   what  they  want  un6l  you  show   it  to  them.
  12. I  didn't  see  it  then,  but  it  turned  out

that  geVng  fired  from  Apple  was  the   best  thing  that  could  have  ever   happened  to  me.  The  heaviness  of   being  successful  was  replaced  by  the   lightness  of  being  a  beginner  again,   less  sure  about  everything.  It  freed  me   to  enter  one  of  the  most  crea6ve   periods  of  my  life.
  13. Some6mes  when  you  innovate,   you  make  mistakes.  It  is

best  to   admit  them  quickly,  and  get  on   with  improving  your  other   innova6ons.
  14. You  must  check  out  John’s  blog   “Simple  Solu6ons”.  He

is  my   inspira6on  to  keep  things   simple.     hPp://www.johnvarghese.com
