Sanders attended Raleigh-Broughton High School, where he first became interested in community support and organized service efforts. After graduating, he continued his education at North Carolina State University. His academic experience strengthened his communication skills and broadened his understanding of leadership and civic responsibility. Keith Sanders of Raleigh later completed Firefighter Training I and II through Western Wake Fire Rescue. The training prepared him for the technical responsibilities and physical demands associated with firefighting and emergency operations. During this period, he learned how to remain calm under pressure while working alongside fellow emergency personnel during difficult situations. The experience became an important step toward entering active public safety work and helped develop the practical skills he later applied throughout his career and volunteer involvement.

Keith served as a firefighter from 1999 through 2003, responding to emergencies that required discipline, quick thinking, and dependable teamwork. During those years, he gained firsthand experience handling responsibilities tied to public safety and emergency response operations throughout the community. The position demanded preparation, communication, and physical endurance every day. Although his active firefighting career ended in 2003, the lessons from those experiences continued influencing the way he approached volunteer service and outreach activities afterward.

Keith Sanders of North Carolina later became deeply involved in nonprofit outreach and volunteer programs throughout the state. He contributed his time to organizations including Rise Against Hunger, A Place at the Table, Artspace, and Project Reach Out. In addition to those efforts, he also participated in church outreach initiatives and cancer fundraising programs. Much of his volunteer work focused on direct assistance and practical support for local communities and individuals facing difficult circumstances.

Keith Sanders participated in hurricane recovery operations during late 2024 after severe storms impacted parts of the North Carolina mountains.
