Over the course of his career, he has built a reputation for steady preparation, clear strategy, and a consistent commitment to the people he represents. His work reflects long-term dedication to the legal field and a careful, disciplined approach to each case.
He graduated from the Northern Illinois College of Law in 1998 and entered criminal defense immediately. Early in his career, he developed a strong courtroom presence. He has completed more than 100 felony jury trials, including two high-profile murder cases. For three consecutive years, he was recognized by the Minnesota Public Defenders Office for handling the highest number of jury trials in the 9th Judicial District. His legal practice is grounded in detailed case review, thoughtful planning, and steady advocacy, earning him respect throughout Minnesota’s legal community.
Kent's professional experience also includes significant work outside the courtroom. From March 2022 to July 2024, he worked with the National Opinion Research Center in Chicago, taking part in national studies such as the Consumer Finance Survey and the Early Childcare and Education Survey. His responsibilities involved conducting field interviews and collecting accurate, nonpartisan data. He values this experience for expanding his skills and contributing to research that informs national programs.
Community involvement has long been significant to him. He has supported the United Way in several roles, including serving as a disbursement judge, and he has been a donor and supporter of the Boys and Girls Club. His contributions often include mentoring and offering assistance during demanding periods, reflecting his ongoing interest in public service.
Family life remains central to him. Strunk married in 2000, and he and his spouse have four children. Their oldest, born in 2001, appeared in a book featuring newborns and later graduated from the University of Minnesota before beginning graduate studies. Their second child, born in 2003, earned a degree in Archaeology and plans to pursue graduate education. Their twins, born in 2006, attend the University of Minnesota, with one studying management and the other active in theater.
As the primary caregiver, he has remained closely involved in their education and activities. A long-standing family tradition he values is taking each child to at least one Minnesota Twins game every year. He continues to live in Minnesota with his family and their yellow Labrador, Annie.
Today, Kent Strunk remains dedicated to his profession, his community, and his family.
