  1. What is Heroku? • Platform as a Service (PaaS) •

i.e. provides a computing platform and solution stack as a service • Made for developers! • Supports Python, Ruby, Java, Scala, Clojure, Node.js, Logo, and...!
  2. How does it work? • A dyno is a lightweight

container running a single user-specified command. • A dyno can run any command available in its default environment--what’s supplied in the Cedar stack, which we’ll talk about later--along with your app’s slug.
  3. How does it work? • Your app’s slug is a

compressed and pre- packaged copy of your application optimized for distribution to the dyno manager.
  4. How does it work? • Your app’s slug is a

compressed and pre- packaged copy of your application optimized for distribution to the dyno manager.
  5. How does it work? • Your app’s slug is a

compressed and pre- packaged copy of your application optimized for distribution to the dyno manager.
  6. How does it work? • Your app’s slug is a

compressed and pre- packaged copy of your application optimized for distribution to the dyno manager.
  7. How does it work? • Heroku is erosion-resistant because the

dyno manager keeps your app’s dyno formation running automatically.
  8. How does it work? • Heroku is erosion-resistant because the

  9. How does it work? • More web dynos means more

concurrency, and more worker dynos means more capacity, but more dynos in general costs more money.
  10. How does it work? • There are other parts to

Heroku, as well (control surface APIs, logplex, etc.), but I only have five minutes, so... trust that dynos are really cool.
  11. How to deploy? 2. Run the command “heroku login” from

your shell and enter your Heroku credentials.
  12. How to deploy? 3. Run the command “heroku create --stack

cedar” from your shell. This will create a new Heroku app and provide you with your public URL and git URL. A stack gives you the base operating system, language runtime, and associated libraries needed to run your application. *NOTE: You can also use the “heroku create” command, which will currently create a Cedar stack by default. Celadon Cedar’s base technology is Ubuntu 10.04.
  13. How to deploy? 4. If you don’t already have a

public SSH key, create one here. When the tutorial tells you to add the public key to your github.com account, go to dashboard.heroku.com and add it to your “SSH Keys” section, instead. Then, use the standard git commands “git add *,” “git commit -m ‘Whatever!’,” and “git push heroku master” to push your application to Heroku.
  14. How to deploy? You can change the herokuapp.com subdomain, or

add a custom domain, at dashboard.heroku.com > [app name].
  15. How to deploy? You can change the herokuapp.com subdomain, or

add a custom domain, at dashboard.heroku.com > [app name].
