  4. DEFINITION OF TOURISM TERMS • Dark Tourism is where someone

    goes to a place that is associated with death and tragedy. Places that are popular for this type of tourism is visiting Auschwitz in Poland, Poenari Castle in Romania, and Jack the Ripper Exhibition in the London Dungeon. • Religious Tourism is where someone goes to a place for religious purposes. Places that are popular for visiting is Mekkah in Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem in Israel, and Varnasi. • War Tourism is where someone goes to an active war zone for recreational travel. Places include Afghanistan, Sudan, Egypt, and Syria.

    travels somewhere that is in the same country. Popular trips for this type of tourism is Orlando FL to NYC,NY. San Francisco, CA to Phoenix, AZ. • Culinary Tourism is where someone travels to a place to taste different cuisines. Popular Places for this type of travel is Paris, London, Jerusalem, and New York City. • Literary Tourism is where someone travels somewhere that is in a book or the author lived. Popular Places for this type of travel is New Zealand, London, and Dublin.

  7. HOTELS AND FUN FACTS. • The Waldorf Astoria in New

    York City. This Famous Hotel was built because of a family feud. The Waldorf Astoria historically significant for transforming the contemporary hotel, then a facility for transients, into a social center of the city as well as a prestigious destination for visitors and a part of popular culture. Conrad Hilton bought the Hotel in 1949. • Hotel Ritz in Paris. This Famous Hotel was originally a Residence for French Nobles. Cesar Ritz bought the residence and transformed into a Hotel. Ritz demanded Bathrooms in every suite which was innovative in 1898. The hotel has never closed its doors until 2012 for renovations. It is expected to open sometime this year. • Masikryong Ski Resort in North Korea. This Resort took ten months to construct. It is the only Ski Resort in the nation. The Leadership hope to host some Winter Olympic Events there. North Korea is also using this resort to bring more foreign tourists into the nation.

    It is the Tallest Hotel in the world. There is 72 Floors. It took 6-7 years to build. • Hotel George Washington in Jacksonville FL. It was torn down in 1973. The hotel started operation in 1926. It was the only one of two luxury hotels in the downtown area. Charles Linderberg stayed here while visiting Jacksonville. The site of the Hotel is now the federal court. • Seven Sisters Inn in Ocala FL. The House was built in the 1890’s. Charles Rheinauer owned the house. The Inn was sold in 1945 and went through several hands until recently when a local family bought the home and turned it into the Seven Sisters Inn.

    the Hospitality Industry by paving paths to new places. • The Hospitality Industry has helped pave new friendships and partnerships between countries. • Studies have shown that countries who have each others businesses in their countries are stronger allies in times of need.
