  1. Presentation Title Org/ Contact Using Hierarchy in Sakai for Fun

& Profit Nicola Monat-Jacobs [email protected] Senior Director, Learning Platforms & Services Longsight, Inc.
  2. What is Hierarchy? !   Well, it’s in Sakai 10.

!   https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/SAKDEV/Hierarchy +Service !   The Hierarchy Service supports general storage of hierarchical nodes within Sakai. It can support multiple hierarchies and has a flexible interface which is meant to be generalized and easy to use. !   Put things into a tree !   Can have multiple hierarchies, you will probably only have one.
  3. Hierarchy… !   Most often, you are setting up a

hierarchy of course sites to map to your institution. !   You can have as many “levels” as you want, and call them whatever you want, as long as the levels are consistent. !   Currently, an item cannot be in more than one place aka cannot be the direct child of more than one hierarchy node.
  4. What is Delegated Access? !   Well, it’s also in

Sakai 10. !   https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/DAC/Delegated +Access+Tool !   Allow some administrative abilities for “other” folks, restrict them to a particular “jurisdiction” !   How do you set it up? Default: School, Department, Subject !   Site Properties! - How do you get those in there anyway? !   And then there is a job to run
  5. Evaluation System !   Want to deploy course evaluations more

    easily. !   https://source.sakaiproject.org/contrib/longsight/ da_evalprovider/
  6. Evaluation System !   The structure of the DA hierarchy

is sync’d with the same structure in EvalSys !   The permissions are different though!
  7. FYI !   Hierarchy is only used in EvalSys for

*assigning* evaluations, not used for reporting. !   Sites can’t be in more than one place in the hierarchy. !   Sometimes structure has to be changed mid-stream !   Questions?
