  4. Pointing Ahead—August 4, 2013 It is much easier to believe

something is true when you can touch it. That is the most difficult thing about faith— it is easily dismissed because it is not tangible. We operate out of faith every day, though, and this faith has nothing to do with God. We have faith that the air we breathe will fill our lungs with oxygen and not dangerous gas. We have faith that our loved ones will care when we share with them all that is occurring in our lives. And we have faith that when we sit down in a chair, that chair will support us. We live by faith constantly. It is only when what we expect is shattered—when the air is poisonous gas, when our loved ones don’t care, when the chair breaks—that we begin to have doubt. Doubt often comes as a result of disappointment. Thomas, our next character in God’s Wild Plan, had definitely experienced such disappointment. His mentor, teacher, friend, and hope of a Messiah had just been murdered, so why should be believe anything? His hopes had been dashed and now what was he supposed to do? Thomas’ honesty is a reminder to all of us that doubt is a normal part of faith. Doubt can also be a helpful part of faith when examined. Journey with me today as we dive into doubt and discover how helpful it can be. Blessings, Karla POINT LOMA COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 2128 CHATSWORTH BLVD.
