  1. This is the account of Jacob and his family. When

Joseph was seventeen years old, he often tended his father's flocks. He worked for his half brothers, the sons of his father's wives Bilhah and Zilpah. But Joseph reported to his father some of the bad things his brothers were doing. Genesis 37:2 (NLT)
  2. When Joseph was taken to Egypt by the Ishmaelite traders,

he was purchased by Potiphar, an Egyptian officer. Potiphar was captain of the guard for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. This pleased Potiphar, so he Genesis 39:1-6 (NLT)
  3. soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in

charge of his entire household and everything he owned. From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and property, the Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished. So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t worry about a thing— except what kind of food to eat! Genesis 39:1-6 (NLT)
  4. So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him,

and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. Gensis 39:4 (ESV)
  5. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And after

a time his master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge. He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her. Gensis 39:6-12 (ESV)
  6. But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast

love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the Lord was with him. And whatever he did, the Lord made it succeed. Gensis 39:21-23 (ESV)
  7. When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw

that they were troubled. Gensis 40:6 (ESV)
  8. And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a

man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command.d Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Gensis 41:38-41 (ESV)
