Most of us rely on managed services to run our applications. Even in companies using their own bare-metal infrastructure, it's rare for one team to be responsible for running lower-level services like container orchestration as well as writing the customer-facing applications that run on it.
"Managed" is an extremely broad word though, which can trip up platform builders and consumers alike. Just how much is managed for you?
In this talk, we'll explore how wildly managed offerings of the same service can differ by reviewing three Kubernetes products: Amazon's EKS, Google's GKE, and Amazon's Fargate for EKS.
The point isn't to arrive at a single "best" option - there isn't one. The goal is for you to leave with a better sense of how to compare managed services as a customer, or, if you're a platform builder, how to decide what's your responsibility and what you leave to customers.
