  1. Agenda ✓ Definition ✓ The Process of Instructional Design ✓

Elements of a Learning Situation ✓ The Principles of Instructional Design
  2. Instructional Design in E-learning It plays a key role because

of: ▪ Limited or no instructor intervention ▪ Pre-designed learning content ▪ Self-contained learning environment
  3. The Process of Instructional Design ① Analyze  elements of

instructional design/learning situation ② Develop  course content and materials ③ Implement  offer course and gather feedback
  4. Learners  What is their age? What king of materials

and example would work for their age?  What is background? What do they know about that topic? How can I build on that knowledge?  What is their educational level? How can I present the topic in a way that is appropriate for their level of education?
  5. Learning Goals Learning goals: what do I want them to

learn? What are the specific tasks that they will be able to complete after this session? E.g.1 Write a five-paragraph narrative essay. E.g.2 Draw a circle. E.g.3 Drive a car E.g.4 Use the Past Simple tense to describe past events.
  6. Teaching Methods  How can I present this content clearly?

 What materials can I use to present it?  What examples can I use to demonstrate it?  What activities can I use for practice?  How should I sequence the learning activities?
  7. Assessment  How can I measure their attainment of the

learning outcomes?  What task or problem would require them to use the learned skills and knowledge?  How can I evaluate their performance and give them feedback on their performance?
  8. Principles of Instructional Design ▪ Learners ▪ Use appropriate content

    ▪ Address learners’ needs ▪ Learning goals ▪ Write appropriate learning goals ▪ Determine the level of learning ▪ Break down Learning goals into outcomes
  9. Principles of Instructional Design (Cont.) ▪ Teaching Methods ▪ Inform

instruction by learning objectives ▪ Present concepts multimodally ▪ Use concrete examples ▪ Foster experiential learning ▪ Build up skills gradually ▪ Use engaging materials ▪ Sequence activities logically ▪ Assessment ▪ Guide assessment by learning goals ▪ Use dynamic assessment to guide learning ▪ Measure performance in realistic problem-solving scenarios
