Steven Joseph Wolfe launched his career in real estate and franchising in 2013, establishing a diverse portfolio that includes a 118-unit single-family rental community, five vacation rentals, new apartment complexes, two Marriott hotels, and a medical biotechnology startup. By 2021, he had expanded into senior living, initiating his first project in Durango, Colorado, which he and his partners sold in the spring of 2024. Additionally, they have developed seven more senior living facilities across Minnesota and Iowa.
With a background rooted in restaurant and franchise operations, real estate development—including hotels and vacation rentals—and, more recently, senior living communities specializing in assisted living and memory care, he has shown a remarkable ability to navigate various sectors successfully.
In 2000, Steven took on the role of a franchise owner/operator with Panera Bread, where he developed six locations across southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. He managed over 350 employees and guided the operation until he sold the franchise in 2019. Throughout his tenure, he was lauded for his operational excellence, leadership, employee development, and strategic marketing efforts, consistently achieving high customer satisfaction and ranking among the top national Panera franchisees.
His leadership style was hands-on, characterized by direct involvement in daily operations and close interactions with both employees and customers. He assembled a strong management team of over 32 managers, overseeing their development and ensuring they maintained the high standards necessary for operational success.
His marketing strategies were carefully designed to align with Panera Bread’s national brand while also adapting to the local market’s specific needs, significantly contributing to sustained growth and the expansion of his franchise operations.
Before entering the world of franchising, he was an independent insurance broker, where he specialized in supplemental insurance sales in the Chicago suburbs, achieving top sales rankings annually. His sales career began even earlier, during his college years, selling educational and Christian books across several southern states, where he developed resilience and honed his sales acumen.
Steven grew up as the sixth of ten siblings in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1988 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a minor in History from St. John’s University in 1992.
Committed to his community, he has supported various charitable efforts through his businesses, donating significantly to local nonprofits and food banks. His franchises alone contributed over $300,000 annually in bakery products to community organizations.
In his leisure, he enjoys cycling, attending sports events, spending time with family and friends, exploring parks, and participating in cultural events.
