Thomas Kuriakose, MD

Thomas Kuriakose, MD, is a physician based in New York, NY, focusing on pediatric critical care. He is completing a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In 2022, he finished his pediatric residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center through the Boston Combined Residency Program. His professional path reflects a consistent dedication to improving healthcare access for underserved populations.

Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Economics from a college in Massachusetts. After graduation, he joined a teaching program in Mississippi, where he taught high school courses in Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, Statistics, and SATP Biology for three years. His students consistently performed above average in state assessments. In addition to teaching, he served as an assistant coach for the track and field and soccer teams, supporting student-athletes who earned state-level recognition. These roles reinforced his commitment to youth development and significantly shaped his decision to pursue medicine.

Thomas later earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction before beginning medical school in New Jersey. While in medical school, he co-founded a mentorship initiative for adolescents with HIV and held leadership roles in a student-run free clinic, eventually becoming the clinic director. He also contributed to a team-based training program to enhance communication and safety within healthcare teams. His efforts earned him distinction in service to the community.

During residency, Thomas participated in health equity initiatives and curriculum design. As a fellow, his research centers on improving communication between healthcare providers and families in pediatric intensive care, particularly in acute respiratory failure. He also led the introduction of Health Equity Rounds within his department to foster meaningful discussions about care disparities.

Thomas Kuriakose, MD, continues to bring together clinical training, educational leadership, and advocacy to support critically ill children and promote equitable care across pediatric settings.
