William Steinberg

William Steinberg has always been drawn to environments that demand intellectual rigor and adaptability. Raised in a Marine Corps family, with a father who served nearly 35 years as a pilot, his childhood was shaped by frequent relocation and exposure to diverse perspectives. These experiences instilled discipline, flexibility, and a fascination with structured systems. Alongside academics, he nurtured interests in music and sports, learning guitar and competing on his high school basketball team.

His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University, followed by a six-month internship at NASA’s Langley Research Center. There, he contributed to the HALOE project, which was used on space shuttle missions to collect solar data. William later earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Northridge, where his performance led to induction into Tau Beta Pi. By graduation, he possessed strong practical experience in embedded systems and signal processing.

William began his professional career in California at McDonnell Douglas, where he worked on development programs for the MD80, MD11, and C-17 aircraft. His responsibilities included embedded firmware, operating systems, and tools supporting airborne data acquisition, all of which required extensive testing and low-level debugging. He later joined Sonatech in Santa Barbara, where he designed embedded controllers and software for underwater acoustic tracking systems used in military and commercial settings, further refining his focus on precision and performance.

In 1994, William relocated to New York City to join Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Technology Division, marking his transition into financial engineering. Over the years, he worked on trading infrastructure, real-time data dissemination, and global systems supporting multiple asset classes. In 2008, he joined Goldman Sachs, where, as Vice President, William Steinberg supported equities electronic market-making and quantitative trading, contributing to futures and ETF workflows and desk-level risk platforms.

William returned to Morgan Stanley in 2023 as an Executive Director within Institutional Securities Technology, leading global C++ teams responsible for trading risk controls. With more than three decades in finance, he brings deep expertise in C++, Python, and distributed systems. Beyond his professional work, he remains active in charitable and mentorship efforts, while enjoying music, sports, travel, and outdoor pursuits that reflect a career guided by consistency and purpose.
