  1. Problem To prevent oil from flowing into the environment when

the water is pumped out of a sealed bath, an automatic solution is being searched to identify the inclusion of oil in the water as well as the water level in the tub
  2. Our solution Peripheral • Conductivity sensor: identify if there is

oil on the top of the water and how much (3cm max) • ToF (time-of-flight): measures distance to the top • Send measurements to Central through BLE Central • Ultrasonic: measure distance to water • Receive data from peripheral through BLE • Sends message to TTN with water level, oil amount, node ID • Receives from TTN if pump should be activated Central Peripheral BLE P u m p
  3. No oil spill • Every 10 sec Peripheral sends oil

level (=0), measurement of distance to the top of the tub to Central through BLE • Central measures distance to water with ToF, compares with distance sent by Peripheral and previous measurements, chooses the most reliable source • Every 1h Central sends message with LoRaWAN with last measured water level, oil level(=0) and node ID Central Peripheral BLE
  4. Oil spill In case of oil inclusion in the water

it stays on the top. 1. Conductivity sensor identifies oil level 2. Peripheral sends data to Central 3. Central combines water level and oil level 4. If water level is high and increasing it sends alert message immediately 5. Otherwise it continues collecting information and sends aggregated data adding speed of oil level increase Central Peripheral BLE
  5. Other possible solutions/add-ons • Fluorescent light to identify oil •

Weather forecast to predict water level openweathermap.org has weather forecast for 5 days every 3h. It could be used to predict water level and help to shift pump operation to working hours
