Transcript
The second type are building blocks that are really just
squashed ver- sions of other characters.
They have become squished over the years so that they
t more snugly into complex combination characters.
So I tend to just call them “xxx (squished to
the side)”. Not terribly academic, perhaps, but it gets the point across!
The meanings of these building blocks very often give you
a huge clue as to the meaning of the combination characters that they are used in, so they are well worth knowing!
