  1. Every good story has a beginning Genesis is the book

of “Beginnings” It’s here that the stage is set for the rest of the Bible
  2. 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the

earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. GENESIS 1
  3. 6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between

the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. 9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
  4. 11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing

plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning —the third day.
  5. 14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the

vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
  6. 20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living

creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
  7. 24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures

according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
  8. 26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our

image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
  9. 27 So God created man in His own image, in

the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
  10. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them,

“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
  11. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and

behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
  12. 1a In the beginning God… Right at the beginning of

    everything, God is already there.
  13. If God created us, who created God? The Bible doesn’t

even bother to answer. The question makes no sense to God. God does not live in time like we do.
  14. Ancient of Days (Daniel 7:9) Who was, and is, and

is to come (Revelations 1:8) Alpha and Omega (Revelations 1:8) Without Beginning or End (Hebrews 7:3) God is completely and uniquely Eternal
  15. 1b …God created the heavens and the earth. Day 1

Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Light Atmosphere Land & Plants Planets Air & Sea Creatures Animals
  16. God is eternal, He is also the source of all

things. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:16)
  17. This means He is powerful. God says “Let there be

    ___________” and there it is.
  18. This means He is in-charge. The creator has the rights

to his creation. This is God’s world.
  19. There is only one God. Hear, O Israel: The LORD

our God, the LORD is one. (Deuteronomy 6:4) 26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. But God is more than one.
  20. Creation Reflects the Creator. “I write a lot of songs

about love and I think that’s because to me love seems like this huge complicated thing. But it seems like every once in a while, two people get it figured out, two people get it right. And so I think the rest of us, we walk around daydreaming about what that might be like.” - Taylor Swift What does creation tell us about God?
  21. VERY GOOD. After each day of creation, God looks at

the result and says “Good”. When creation is finished, God looks and says “Very Good”.
  22. Man was created on the 6th day. Out of all

creation, mankind is special. God intends to relate to us in a way He doesn’t with the rest of creation.
  23. LORD God = Yahweh Elohim God uses His Personal name,

“I AM”. In Genesis 2 then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. (Genesis 2:7)
  24. GOD USES HIS PERSONAL NAME WHEN HE WANTS TO RELATE

IN A PERSONAL WAY. He wants you to know Him in a personal way. Your God.
  25. 5 Characteristics of God #1 He is Eternal #2 He

is the Creator #3 He is 3-in-1 #4 He is Good #5 He is Personal
  26. You may think you have a great plan for your

life, God’s plan is much better.
