A talk I gave at Valiocon (www.valiocon.com) on June 6, 2014 about facing your fears and working on something that might seem less than appealing ("unshiny") at first. And how by doing this you discover you can have the kind of impact you couldn't have elsewhere and learn/grow tremendously.
These points are illustrated by my own journey of joining OpenTable, a public company without an in-house design team for 14 years. In this talk I discuss my past year there and go over three main projects I worked on: iOS 7 redesign, Guest Center on the iPad, and mobile payments.
