George Crawford


George Crawford is a classical musician turned web developer. He started his second career just four years ago working for Assanka, later acquired by the Financial Times and rebranded as FT Labs. He now works as a full-stack developer on the industry-leading FT Web App (, and as lead developer of The Economist’s web app (

He is passionately interested in a wide range areas across the world of the web, including page layout, typography, aesthetics, usability, user testing, data-driven development, performance optimisation, visual regression testing, continuous deployment, and immersive web app technologies such as Service Worker.

George still combines his work for the FT with the occasional music tour, and lives in Bristol with his wife and daughter.
