The awards go to videographer Matt Colaciello, choreographer Roxanna Lewis, language artist Mary Lewis, dancer Hilly Bodin and visual artist Christopher Clark. Symphony to play at MOCA Associate conductor Nathan Aspinall and the Jacksonville Symphony, joined by Vanessa Cruz and Sheila Goloborotko of the University of North Florida Department of Art, will present “Synaesthesia” twice on Sunday, which is Mother’s Day, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, 333 N. Laura St. The multimedia performances, which will fuse art with music by Philip Glass, Bach and Berg, will be at 1 and at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 to Symphony subscribers, $35 for adults, $15 for children. JCVA’s Spring Exhibition opens The Jacksonville Coalition for Visual Arts’ 2017 Spring Exhibition opens Thursday and continues through June 10 at Archway Gallery & Framing, 363 Atlantic Blvd., Atlantic Beach. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday during the North Beaches Art Walk. The event is free and most works will be available for purchase. Mark Woods at Mandarin Museum Times-Union metro columnist Mark Woods, author of “Lassoing the Sun: A Year in America’s National Parks,” will be the guest speaker at the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society’s Third Thursday Lecture. The lecture, which will about the book, will be at the Mandarin Community Club, 12447 Mandarin Road at 7 p.m It will be preceded by a reception at 6:30 p.m. The event is free. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. ‘Ink, Silk, and Gold’ opens Friday at the Cummer “Ink, Silk, and Gold: Islamic Treasures from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston” opens Friday at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens,” 829 Riverside Ave. The exhibit covers virtually all aspects of Islamic art in almost all media, ranging from the 8th to the 21st century and from Spain to Indonesia. The exhibit, which will continue at the Cummer through Sept. 3, was organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, which has been collecting Islamic art for 130 years. Florida Theatre Gala Saturday The Florida Theatre’s Rock the 20s Gala will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at the theater, 128 E. Forsyth St. There will be open bars, a plated dinner by Bistro Aix and music by the Chris Thomas Band, as well as a live auction. Guests are urged to dress in their 1920s attire. Summer Jazz at the Beach Pavilion The first concert in the 16th Annual Summer Jazz Series will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at the Jacksonville Beach Pavilion, 1st St. N., Jacksonville Beach. Limitless, Steve Cole and Alex Bugnon will be the performers with Bugnon going on at 7 p.m. Visitors can bring blankets, lawn chairs and refreshments. Admission is free. The second and last concert of the season will be Sunday, June 11.
