Announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024, this scheme aims to provide free electricity to over one crore households across the country through the installation of rooftop solar panels. 02 WHAT IS PM SURYA GHAR MUFT BIJLI YOJANA? The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was launched to provide affordable electricity to lower and middle- income households in India. Under this scheme, one crore households will receive up to 300 units of electricity free every month by installing rooftop solar panels. This ambitious program was initially announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget for 2024-25. With a budget allocation of Rs 75,021 crore, the scheme promotes the use of solar energy, offering households a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional electricity sources.

4. 04 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 1. Indian Citizenship: Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply 2. House Ownership: Applicants must own the house and have a roof suitable for installing solar panels 3. Valid Electricity Connection: The household must have a valid electricity connection 4. No Previous Subsidy: The applicant should not have availed any other solar panel subsidy previously
5. Visit the Official Website: Go to the official website at pmsuryaghar.gov.in. 1. Register: Click on the "Apply For Rooftop Solar" button on the homepage. You will need to register by selecting your state, electricity distribution company, and entering your electricity consumer number, mobile number, and email address. 2. Login: After registering, log in with your consumer number and mobile number to complete the application form for rooftop solar panels. 3. Approval Process: Once your application is submitted, the local electricity distribution company (DISCOM) will evaluate the feasibility of installing the solar panels. 4. Installation: If approved, you can proceed with the installation by hiring a registered vendor. The vendor will install the rooftop solar system as per the guidelines of the scheme. 5. Net Metering and Subsidy: After installation, apply for a net meter through the same portal.
