  1. Reviews: - A great way to get users involved on

the website - You can check and approve reviews first - Help to build trust between user and site - May help with rich snippets - Facebook, Google and on site reviews
  2. Internal linking: - Making sure that all internal links are

using ‘money key words’ - This can mean using natural language that talks to the reader and also gives primary KWs to search engines - Having very few (but high quality) external linking domains but a great internal link structure can result in great success in search
  3. Blog titles: - Informational searches are the most common searches!

    - Always answer a question for the searcher - Putting your feet in the shoes of the reader and the search engine
  4. Fake news: - We are not lieing, we are manipulating

the truth - Link bait: low risk and high reward - You need to have a GREAT idea - Fake products work really well and they are always better when they have an element of humour (you have a get out clause: ‘I was only joking’)
  5. Groupon released a ‘name your baby for £1000’ - Set

up fake gmail accounts (so that newspapers don’t see it as purely for SEO) and send some tip offs to journalists and share it on social media - If they have ‘live news’ for a particular event like the world cup then journalists are often scraping around to fill up their news stream, so timing can be really important here! - Never underestimate the power of fan communities - releasing fan information or fake fan news can be a great link generator!
  6. The Groupon featured banana holder: - Write a blog post

on an odd or curious product (using humour or a topical hook in the media at the time) then this could work as link bait. Here is a banana holder that has generated traffic/interest for Groupon:
  7. Here are some links they have generated as a result:

  8. Video Marketing: - 85% of traffic by 2020 will be

video related for many brands - This can link into reviews a little bit. - How to’s and product reviews, filming/uploading/doing all of the due diligence can be really time consuming. - Introducing strategy:
  9. #1 Find a great youtube video relating to your brand

#2 See if the person who has made the video has a website of good quality #3 Get the video and the transcript and write a blog post about it on your site #4 Reach out to the creator and ask for a link in return for promoting their video
  10. - Google and users like multimodal elements (such as video)

being on the page - This could be a way around the time consuming cost of creating a youtube channel.
  11. Gamification: - Similar to creating puzzle pieces - Can be

a bit costly Being topical: - Using titles that are ‘topical hooks’ will always help (in the short term) to generate interest. - By posting about something in the media now you can help generate more interest - Writing spoof pieces about Brexit, the royal family or whatever is newsworthy at the moment can help generate more social media interest, especially if you have something unique to say.
