  1. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2012/2013

Special Events Guide. The Town of Newmarket offers a number of wonderful special events each year. These Town events capture the essence of our community and truly make Newmarket even better. The events enhance the quality of life of our residents, promote tourism, and showcase what Newmarket has to offer. This year we have some exciting new events lined up that are sure to be fun for the whole family. This is a very exciting time for Newmarket. The opening of Newmarket Riverwalk Commons is a cornerstone in reshaping our Town, and creating a community gathering space in the heart of the downtown core. Newmarket Riverwalk Commons will host a variety of events this year, so why not spend some time listening to some great local talent at Rhythm @ Riverwalk, or watch a movie under the stars at a newly added Spring and Fall Moonlight Movie? The events won’t end there, because even with no scheduled activities, Newmarket Riverwalk Commons is a great place to simply meet up with friends and neighbours and enjoy what downtown Newmarket has to offer. The exciting special events line up will include some fan favourites. Dog lovers can take the opportunity to bring their pooch to the the family friendly ‘New-bark-et’ event. Although this event is dedicated to our four-legged friends, there will be activities for the whole family to enjoy. For those looking to focus on health and well-being, the annual Revitalize and Renew: Health and Wellness Event is sure to offer tips and tricks on how to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Fairy Lake is always a great place to gather and each year it plays host to a variety of fantastic concerts and festivals. For all of the history buffs in Newmarket, 2012 marks the 175th anniversary of the Rebellion. Rebel Heartland 1837 Festival at Fairy Lake Park will pay tribute to our Town’s history and celebrate our dynamic past. I would like to give a special thanks to the extraordinary staff that organize and create these events and assist in enhancing the lives of our residents. Keep this guide with you to reference what is happening right here in Newmarket over the next year. Whatever you are interested in, whether staying active, searching for something new and fun to experience or looking to just spend time with your family, this guide will be sure to have something you will love.
