  1. IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR

CHANGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?  For the short film we decided to follow conventions through props and locations. We used a sharp object as the weapon and used locations such as a graveyard and a garage.  However we decided to break traditional horror convention by making our killer female.
  2.  Weapon We stuck to the conventions of a horror

by using a sharp instrument to kill our victim.  Location The locations we filmed in were a graveyard and a garage. Both of these locations are conventional to a horror film
  3.  Characters Our killer is unconventional to a horror film.

Although the killer conventionally comes from a troubled past that motivates them to murder, she is female whereas in a conventional horror film the killers are usually male. Our victim is stereotypical to a horror film. The victim fits into the stereotypical role of the defenceless female.
  4. FILM TITLE  Our short film is named ‘Guess Who’,

taken from a piece of the dialogue from the film. The title conforms to conventions because it gives a mysterious feel to the film and creates some tension in the audience before they have seen the film.
  5. NARRATIVE  The narrative for our short film is conventional

to a horror film. The film starts with the victim in a graveyard, through this sequence audiences can identify and sympathise with the victim making her capture and murder more shocking. For the murder scene we would have liked to have made it more graphic but with limited resources we decided to angle specific shots that would allow the audience to use their imagination instead of the gore being shown on screen.
  6. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND

ANCILLARY TEXTS?  For the ancillary project we decided to do a film poster and a magazine article reviewing our film.  We found that these would be more effective for advertising our short film
  7. ANCILLARY PROJECT 1  FILM POSTER From looking at my

product research I have decided to follow the conventions of the horror film poster. I have kept it simple, showing a distressing image highlighting the blood so audience will identify this as a horror film. The text also presents the horror genre as it looks like it was written in blood with the dripping around the letters.
  8. ANCILLARY PROJECT 2  MAGAZINE ARTICLE From the articles I

have looked at, they mostly contained images with a small amount of text evaluating the film. They also all included one main image and a few smaller images.
  9.  My ancillaries work well with my short film as

they all portray the horror genre and compliment each other.  The ancillaries also hint to the audience what the film will be about without revealing too much about the narrative.  The ancillaries help to promote the film and the genre raising awareness of my short film.
  10. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?  For our

audience research we created a questionnaire and also planned questions for a focus group. We also uploaded our short film to youtube to see what audiences thought of our film.
  11.  Questionnaire results We took into advice some of our

    audience feedback from the questionnaire.
  12. We took into account some of our audience feed back

when creating our film. For instance the type of killer we would have and the locations. The audience research also helped when creating our ancillary projects. It helped us know which ancillaries would aid our film best and how to format them.
  13. We uploaded our short film to youtube to get responses

from our audiences and gain audience feedback. From the feedback we can learn from their comments and criticisms and also understand certain aspects of the film they enjoyed. From getting feedback from audiences on youtube, they picked up on errors we had noticed during editing, such as the continuity error of the victims clothes and also some of the shots are lighter because they were shot earlier on in the day. Also the lack of suspenseful music when the killing is taking place was also an issue they raised.
  14. HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND

RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES? WWW.BLOGGER.COM
  15. WWW.YOUTUBE.COM We used youtube to find clips for analysis. Youtube

also aided our film process. We used youtube to upload films to both gain audience feedback and also to make it easier to upload onto our blogs.
  16. MICROSOFT PUBLISHER MICROSOFT POWER POINT SLIDESHARE Slideshare allowed me to

upload my presentations making it easier to present information and research to my blog. Publisher was good to use as it contains features that allow me to save files as a JPEG image making it easier to load onto my blog.
  17. Speaker Deck is similar to Slideshare in the way it

allows me to upload powerpoint presentations, however this perticular website allows me to upload larger files. It does this by uploading PDF files, powerpoint allows me to save my work into this format making it easier to upload larger files.
  18. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP Guides Polygon Tool - Removing Backgrounds Free Transform

Photoshop was a main part in the construction of my ancillary projects. Mostly I just recapped skills I learned during my AS coursework, however I did learn new tools and techniques such as creating a black and grey image while highlighting a certain colour to stand out, for instance red.
  19. ADOBE PREMIERE PRO Organising and locating clips. Selecting and capturing

specific frames in a scene This programme aided me in the editing process of the coursework.
  20. Effects and Transitions Rendering Work These tools allow me to

manipulate the shot. I can move, zoom or rotate the shot highlighted Premiere Pro was a crucial piece of software when creating my short film. It allowed me to edit and connect the shots taken, I could manipulate them however seemed necessary for the horror genre.
