  12. Proprietary Information LP For Optimization Nimble “Integrated Optimization“ is key

For example, the disposition for BTX Raffinate can be steam cracker feed, gasoline blending, or solvents • The refinery petrochemical integration comes in when the petrochemical option is constantly evaluated for the most economic disposition The option to move the stream needs to be in the linear programming (LP) model Consequently, the integrated network of refinery and petrochemical can act quickly to change the stream's disposition when economics shift to justify it Integrated Refinery Petrochemical LP Model KBC Executive Symposium Japan 2018 April 19, 2018
  13. Proprietary Information • “fit-for-purpose” LP to select optimal crudes, condensates,

and unfinished feedstocks  Strategic planning, tactical planning, operational planning  The LP, or vector library, determines the best stream dispositions (inter- transfers) between refining and chemical processes or blending pools LP For Optimization Minimize margin “leakage” Direct line of sight of Petrochemical’s operations and constraints to the crudes, condensates’ molecules KBC Executive Symposium Japan 2018 April 19, 2018
  14. Proprietary Information • Easier with a single Owner of both

refining and petrochemical sites  Can use the same LP without fear of disclosing details of their operations that might disadvantage them in the marketplace • Neighbouring companies with different ownerships see the benefit of making sure that their planning tools are consistent with the neighbours with whom they trade material streams  Consider integrated LP • Willingness to optimize as “single platform” • Allows a greater ability to optimize a circuit of assets with a integrated LP • Consistent approach to cross interpretation of combined assets’ constraints LP For Optimization KBC Executive Symposium Japan 2018 April 19, 2018

  31. Proprietary Information Asia –Xylene Isomerization Base-Delta PIMS Table by utilizing

Petro-SIM LPU Strategic Consulting –Refining / Petrochemicals Sector Case Study Client Situation A China client utilises PIMS as planning, project evaluation and feedstock selection tool. The structure of the PIMS model is fundamentally a Base-Delta structure. The impact of changes in a single naphtha carbon component on the unit product yield and qualities is of importance and is requirement of Delta structure. Petro-SIMTM LP Utility (LPU) was utilised for generating series of predictive results of single operating parameter changes. This combined use of the process simulator and LPU overcomes the deficiencies of traditional approach. Project Implementation Approach • A Xylene Isomerization unit was calibrated and developed using KBC AROM-SIM software for representing the typical unit performance. • LPU was configured and built based on this Petro-SIM process model. • On the same process model, a series of prediction cases were setup and run by LPU to predict the impact of change in single naphtha carbon component on the unit yield and properties. • The linear regression method was utilized for generating the Delta coefficients required by PIMS Base-Delta structure. Key Findings and Recommendations The LPU developed is proven to be an useful and convenient tool for generating necessary data for the PIMS model. Petro-SIM process model successfully converts those complicated chemical reactions within the unit into a set of calibration/ kinetic factors in order to represent the actual unit kinetic performance. Results • In general, PIMS is able to predict the correct unit responses based on a set of Delta values generated by KBC LPU. • For example, the liquid and component yields for the Deheptaniser bottoms predicted by the PIMS are comparable with the actual plant production and analysis. 38. Proprietary Information “Best Data” Initiative –Better metering, less uncertainty •

It all starts here! • Good metering has never been more relevant than now. All decision support tools rely on plant data. • A continuous improvement effort to eliminate bad metering is a necessary best practice. • For this to happen instrumentation personnel, process engineers and production accountants have to work together. • This multidisciplinary team has to be supported by production accounting / data reconciliation software and oil loss consultants… • But real improvement is only achieved when faulty meters are maintained, i.e. calibrated, replaced, etc. April 19, 2018 KBC Executive Symposium Japan 2018

Executive Symposium Japan 2018 One supply chain wide integrated model… …multiple users responsibilities…
  45. Proprietary Information Conclusions • Production Accounting (PA) and Supply Chain

Scheduling (SCS) are integral components of a Supply Chain Optimization initiative. • PA looks at what happened yesterday (post-mortem). What were the receipts and shipments and the closing inventory positions yesterday. • While SCS determines the future (forward looking: 7, 30,… days ahead) inventory and quality positions based on forecasts of production plans, availability, liftings, etc. • PA is also a key part of a site’s metering continuous improvement program that reduces the uncertainty in the measurements which ensures that the site’s decision support systems will have best data to run with. Also, there is a reduction in the material losses over time. • Supply Chain Scheduling translates the Plan to an executable reality. • By providing an integrated end-to-end model of the entire supply chain scheduling personnel know that the case studies they run take everything into account. Early warning of potential exceptions help avoid contractual penalties such as demurrage. April 19, 2018 KBC Executive Symposium Japan 2018
