  1. The Basics: Views • ViewControllers manage View(s) • Each VC

manages a portion of your app’s user interface. • Each can manage interactions between that interface and the underlying data.
  2. • ViewController classes can be subclasses of UIViewController, UICollectionView, UITableView,

SplitView’s, etc. • You can embed ViewController’s Views within other ViewController’s. (parent, child, children). • You should experiment with each. • We won’t be getting into any of the above today.
  3. UI… uh what? • Apple often releases Sample Code •

Searchable Index: http://apple.co/1DaX9or • UI Catalog http://apple.co/1pOo4Yf is GREAT for learning basic UI Controls and how to work them.
  4. Views have frames • Origin (x,y) at the top left

    • Height & Width • “Coordinate system orientation in UIKit”
  5. In practice • Constraint (limits the space from the top

of the view the top of the UIImageView
  6. Make an app • Remember “Hot or Not”? • We’ll

make one for Easter; pick the cute bunny. • It’ll have a very basic UI. • And we’ll write unit tests to verify it.
  7. Grab the repo • Open terminal app • type: git

    clone https://github.com/lottadot/ introToiOSVol1.git • type: cd introToiOSVol1 • type: git checkout tags/step2 -b step2 • type: open IntroToiOS.xcworkspace
  8. Additional Learnings • Apple’s “Start Developing iOS Apps”
 http://apple.co/1UiAVyd

    • https://swift.org • iBooks: “Swift Programming Series” • iTunes U: http://itunes.stanford.edu • Buckeye Cocoa Meetups
 http://www.meetup.com/Buckeye-Cocoa/ • Apple Developer Resources: http://apple.co/25prqko
  9. #endif My name is Shane Zatezalo. I help people figure

out what they want, then I make their app for them. I run the @BuckeyeCocoa user group. I own Lottadot LLC. And I create sweet apps with my team at @Dynamit in Columbus, OH. And we’re hiring. Hit me up. @lottadot
