Changes Through Doctoral Studies

Transcript

1. My Life Before Entering into Wilmington University’s Doctoral Program When I entered the Ed.D. program I was serving as Interim Director & Starting my natural hair product line business. My friends and I often got together to discuss their careers and businesses.
2. My free time included shopping. Going out dancing. Socializing with friends at happy hour!
3. I was able to leave for vacation at anytime of the year.
4. It wasn’t hard to find time to exercise. Sleeping in on the weekends was an option. I had time to read fiction novels.
5. My Life After Enrolling in the Doctoral Studies program (@ Work) I’m now the Director of Student Support Services. I sit on several committees. I learned to use data to strategically plan to better lead my department.
6. I often chair meetings. Negotiate with vendors for goods and/or services. Established a departmental policies and procedures manual.
7. I gained a better understanding of how politics can easily change the culture of an institution. Increased usage of social media to connect with students. I taught Honors FYE.
8. My Life After Enrolling in the Doctoral Studies program-1st Year Personal Changes I made the decision to place my start-up personal business on hold so I could focus on my studies. I became more earth- friendly.
9. I no longer was able to make happy hour on Friday after work. However, I learned how great it is to enjoy a glass of wine at home. Now my vacations are planned around my 7-week course schedule
10. My free time severely decreased. My readings are no longer for pleasure even though I’ve enjoyed some of our textbooks. During my first year I knew I wanted to study black women leaders in higher education.
11. I learned if I exercised a few days at home… I could also multitask by taking breaks to put dinner in the oven or wash a load of clothes. My Life After Enrolling in the Doctoral Studies program…1st Year-2nd Year

13. We eventually got engaged! I became pregnant.
14. After going past my due date by four days and enduring 48 hours of labor… She was finally here! My Life After Enrolling in the Doctoral Studies program…3rd and final Year
15. Our daughter, Morgan Noelle, was born on July 14, 2013!
16. My latest and most important title is now …
17. I decided to wait until after our baby to get married. Now, we’re planning our summer 2014 wedding.
18. In the midst of wedding plans & a new baby I’m still headed for the doctoral finish line...
