  1. Three big issues in Healthcare IT • Data Silos •

Antiquated technologies, standards, and workflows • Complete lack of patient (consumer) interaction or consideration
  2. The Solution: developers, developers, developers & patients, patients, patients •

Developers need better tools for accessing and interacting with the health system • The regulatory and technological barriers need to be lowered • Patients need a louder voice in healthcare IT
  3. Acentric Platform • Three distinct pieces of software addressing the

aforementioned issues • AceNet: addresses data access • AceLink: addresses data interoperability • AceBase: addresses data storage
  4. AceNet: The Patient Identity Network • A new patient identification

and data access protocol • Patient consent API • Looking into blockchain technologies to facilitate decentralized patient management / ownership of data
  5. AceLink: The Modern Health Data Exchange • A web based

    Health Information Exchange • Powered by FHIR: http://www.hl7.org/fhir/ • See: http://rockhealth.com/2015/03/important-api-youve-never- heard/
  6. AceBase: The Medical Grade Database • Hosted data store for

patients and or developers of healthcare apps • Assists in achieving HIPAA compliance and provides other security best practices • Similar to https://www.truevault.com only more open and with interoperability baked in
  7. Some Tech/Startup Comparisons • Very loose comparisons, mostly aspirational: •

Parse/Twilo/Stripe of healthcare • Gravatar for patient data throughout the health system • The app store for medical applications
  8. Why Now • Technological advancements (Cost of cloud, Blockchains, etc.)

    • Regulatory Incentives (Meaningful Use, HITECH Act, etc.) • Industry is ready (see: https://hl7-fhir.github.io/argonauts.html) • Consumers are ready (see: https://developer.apple.com/healthkit/)
  9. The Importance • The word Acentric means “having no center”.

A health IT system controlled by centralized closed platforms is what got us into the mess we are in today. • An open and comprehensive solution is needed to fully address all of the issues. • Creating a more patient centric health system is in line with the future of health care as personalized medicine continues to gain steam.
