  1. The Longest River The title of longest river in the

world is disputed but generally it is accepted to be the Nile, with the Amazon close behind with a disputed difference in distance of less than 150 miles. While the exact distance of rivers is difficult to measure, the River Nile is estimated to be over 4,000 miles, nearly 7 times the distance it would take you to travel from John O’Groats to Land’s End. The longest river in the UK is the River Severn which runs through both Wales and England, with the Thames second.
  2. The Shortest River The shortest river, on the other hand,

is believed to possibly be the Reprua River in Abkhazia, which is only 18 meters in length, meaning you could fit over 371,000 Reprua Rivers into the Nile. It’s a pretty huge gap in distance, and wouldn’t make for much of a river cruise.
  3. Deepest River The deepest river is the Congo, with some

parts reaching a depth of more than 220m, able to fit in nearly five Statues of Liberty standing on each other. The deepest river in Europe is the Danube, and in the UK it’s the Thames.
  4. Most Powerful River What’s strange is that the longest, deepest

and most powerful rivers are all different – the most powerful is the Amazon River, which can release up to eight trillion gallons of water at the mouth each day. That’s an incredible amount of water that it’s not even worth comparing to something small scale, as it still doesn’t give you a grand scale, but just so you know it’s over 13 million Olympic swimming pools each day.
  5. Rivers Around The World There are 175 rivers in the

world over 1,000km in length, and many thousands of rivers in total. The longest in Europe is the Volga, in Russia, while the Danube runs through the most capital cities with four; Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade. The most popular rivers in the world for river cruises are the Danube, Rhine, Seine and Volga in Europe, the Yangtze in China, the Nile in Africa, the Amazon in South America and the Mississippi in the US. However there are many others visited by major river cruise lines.
