More than 7.8 million women in the U.S. rely on
public health clinics for family planning services. *guttmacher institute
But clinics struggle to keep costs to clients as low
as possible.
Afaxys launched its pharmaceutical division in 2013 to help bring
affordable contraceptives to the public health sector. Image via University of Washington
$5 million in seed capital from the Packard Foundation helped
give the venture a running start.
Since 2013, over one million women have gained access to
affordable contraceptives through Afaxys Pharmaceuticals.
And Afaxys is now the #1 supplier of oral and
emergency contraceptives to clinics in the U.S.* *IMS data, June 2016
This is an example of the powerful potential of mission
investing to realize both returns and social impact.
“Packard [Foundation] has the means. Afaxys has the expertise to
solve a problem in the market. And the public health community is making sure that products and services reach the women who need them.” – Ronda Dean, CEO, Afaxys
