  1. Curso EAD - NR 11 Transportation, Movement, Storage and Handling

of Materials Ensuring the health and safety of workers 7 modules + Closing Safe operation of material in the warehouse
  2. Module 1 - Introduction to NR 11 Definition NR 11

was created by Ordinance No. 3,214 of June 8, 1978, to regulate articles 182 and 183 of the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT). It establishes safety measures to prevent accidents during the transportation, movement, storage, and handling of materials. Importance The standard's main objective is to establish safety measures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment. Without clear rules, the risk of serious accidents such as falls, falling materials, and repetitive strain injuries would be extremely high. What is the main objective of NR 11? a) Increase productivity b) Ensure the health and safety of workers c) Reduce company costs d) Replace old equipment Major Updates SIT Ordinance No. 56/2003 Introduced Annex I, with specific technical regulations for the movement, storage and handling of marble, granite and other rock slabs. SIT Ordinance No. 82/2004 Changed the rules for stacking bags in warehouses, limiting the maximum stack height based on floor strength and load stability. MTPS Ordinance No. 505/2016 Most recent relevant revision, amending Annex I to establish more stringent requirements for the ornamental stone sector. It detailed new measures on inspections, professional qualifications, protection of specific areas and equipment.
  3. Module 2 - General Safety Standards Physical Protections Elevator and

freight elevator shafts must be securely fenced to their full height. When the car is not at floor level, the opening must be protected by a handrail. All openings must be secured against unauthorized access. Equipment Maintenance Equipment must be designed, built and maintained in perfect working condition. Preventive maintenance is mandatory to ensure functionality. Immediate replacement of defective parts is required to prevent failures that could cause accidents. Training and Inspections Operators may only perform tasks after receiving specific training provided by the company. Operators must be qualified and carry an identification card valid for one year. Permanent inspections of critical components (cables, chains, pulleys, hooks). Maximum working load must be indicated in a visible location on all equipment. Practical Example An untrained operator may not know how to calculate the center of gravity of a load on a forklift, increasing the risk of tipping and serious injury.
  4. Module 3 - Manual Transport of Sacks What is manual

bag transportation? Activity in which the weight of the load is fully supported by a single worker, including lifting and depositing the material. Maximum Distance 60 meters For longer distances, use mechanization Mechanization Above 60m Wagons, handcarts or other mechanized means Unsafe Boards Spans > 1m Minimum width: 50cm Loading Assistance Trucks or wagons It is necessary to have a helper Stacking Limited by: Floor strength, stability and packaging strength Risk Example A worker carrying a heavy bag for a distance of more than 60 meters exponentially increases the likelihood of developing lower back injuries and excessive fatigue. Interactive Activity List 2 ergonomic risks and 2 accident risks when manually transporting bags: 1. Ergonomic risk 2. Ergonomic risk 1. Risk of accident 2. Risk of accident Workers carrying out manual transport of sacks
  5. Module 4 - Material Storage Safety Rules Floor Capacity The

weight of the stored material cannot exceed the calculated load capacity for the structure's floor. Clearing Critical Areas The material must be arranged so as not to obstruct doors, fire-fighting equipment, escape routes and emergency exits. Wall Spacing Stacked material must be kept at least 50 centimeters away from the building's side structures. Free Movement and Access The arrangement of loads must not hinder the movement of people and equipment, the lighting of the environment or access to emergency exits. Example of safe and organized storage Attention! It is essential that storage also meets specific safety requirements for each type of material, such as flammable or chemical products. Think about your work environment: What are the main risks of inadequate storage?
  6. Module 5 - Moving Ornamental Rock Sheets Documentation and Inspection

Equipment identification: maximum load, manufacturer, CNPJ and technical manager Inspection and maintenance record Annual inspection report with ART Environmental Conditions Floors: paved, level, resistant, non-slip and without protrusions Movement areas: interruption and signaling of circulation Storage areas: protected from the weather Safety Procedures Use of Stanchions (L) Robust metal parts, fitted onto block-carrying carriages, which serve as lateral protection to ensure stability and prevent rock slabs from falling. Easels Metal structures designed to store rock slabs in a vertical position. Minimum height of 1.5 meters and 80 cm of surrounding circulation. Suction cups "C" shaped equipment used to lift and move containers, with visual and audible alarms for failures. Prohibitions Removing sheets from only one side: Destabilizes the block carrier and increases the risk of it tipping over. Workers between sheets: Prohibited during movement. Extensions for easels: Prohibited use. Storage of sheets on walls: Only in structures designed for this purpose. Risk Example: Removing sheets from just one side of the block-carrying car → the weight unbalances the car → sheets fall, potentially crushing workers.
  7. Module 6 - Training and Qualification Safety training in an

industrial environment Minimum Program Content Module I: Health, safety and hygiene at work 16h Hygiene practices, use of PPE and safety procedures Module II: Study of Annex I of NR 11 4h Specific regulations for the ornamental rock sector Module III: Safe operation of equipment 16h Safe operation of overhead cranes and other material handling equipment Training Requirements Authorization: Only trained workers formally authorized by the employer may operate the equipment. Costing: Training must be provided by the employer, at no cost to the worker. Timing: Performed after admission, during normal working hours. Recycling: Mandatory every 3 years and whenever significant changes occur in facilities, machine operation or working methods. Classes: Limited to 40 students in theoretical classes and 8 students per instructor in practical classes.
  8. Module 7 - General Provisions and Glossary Important Provisions Storage

Prohibition: It is strictly prohibited to store rock sheets supported on walls, columns or other structures that are not designed for this purpose. Cutting areas: Areas intended for cutting materials using diamond wire must be isolated and signposted to prevent access by unauthorized persons. Workbenches: Workbenches must be constructed of strong, stable material compatible with the loads being handled. Observation: These provisions aim to ensure the safety of workers during the handling and storage of ornamental rock sheets. Fueiro (or "L") Easel Container Ovator Whole Technical Glossary A robust metal piece fitted to block-carrying cars, which serves as lateral protection to ensure stability and prevent rock slabs from falling. Structure, usually made of metal or wood, designed to store sheets of rock in a vertical or inclined position, ensuring their stability. "C" shaped equipment used to lift and move containers in loading and unloading operations. Term that designates a fraction of a block of rock that has been sawn, but remains next to the main block.
  9. Course Closing Key Points Recap Physical protection and equipment maintenance

Mandatory operator training Inspections and load limits Rules for manual transport of bags Principles of safe storage Specific safety procedures Next Steps Apply knowledge in the workplace Share information with the team Stay up to date on safety standards Practical Reflection Think about your work environment and answer: 1.Which NR 11 safety measures are already applied in your daily life? 2.Which ones could be improved?
