Delivery Mindset: From Startups to Enterprise & Back Again
We're from Made Tech.
We wrote a book on building high performance agile teams
1. Our delivery journey from working with startups to large
organisations 2. The different mindsets and approaches we’ve seen 3. Bringing our startup learnings to large organisations
1. Our delivery journey from working with startups to enterprises
Scrum taught us discipline
None
None
Faster feedback helped avoid waste (YAGNI)
Goal based delivery made facing uncertainty easier
Delivery approach isn’t one size fits all
Enterprises see failure all the time
2. The different mindsets and approaches we’ve seen
Enterprise mindset: Failed projects are normal
Startup mindset: Roles are hats
Enterprise mindset: Permission over forgiveness
Startup mindset: A problem shared is a problem halved
Enterprise mindset: That’s just the way it is
Startup mindset: Learn fast
3. Bringing our startup learnings to large organisations
Compose roadmaps of goals rather than features
Always have your next showcase booked in
Never skip or change a showcase date
Keep iterations shorter than a week
Address slow / no replies
Bypass proxy people
Private messages and back channels are toxic
Quiet teams are an indicator of dysfunction
Avoid odd number team sizes
Close pull requests within 20 minutes
Allow teams to deploy without asking for permission
Let your teams QA themselves
Ensure your last production deploy isn’t more than a day
old
Provide feedback to your colleagues every week
