3. Basics What is pfSense? • An open source firewall based on FreeBSD • Install it on your own hardware or buy officially supported networking gear • Tons of optional packages for in-line AV scanning, blacklisting, VPN client and server, and more.
4. Basics Why pfSense? • Get rid of that clunky Linksys • Get something managing your network that will get timely security updates • Own your network stack, use something open source that you control and manage • Unfortunately doesn't contain any known backdoors from popular manufacturers • But you can drop to a shell and install your own!
